I'm one of those people that is always looking for someone new (or old) to listen to.
This weekend's finds include:
"Blues" by Chuck Berry is a 2003 release of Blues songs that combine Chuck's Rock sound with some nice Bluesy sounds. I will buy this one.
"Sapphire Blue" by Larry Carlton, what can be said. Larry does some excellent acoustical blues. I will buy this one.
"HangOver Music Vol VI" by Zakk Wylde and The Black Label Society, hmmmm, was supposed to be a calmer acoustical release. I didn't hear any calmer music here. Highlight for me on the whole CD was an instrumental version of "A Whiter Shade of Pale". I have to pass on this one.

Well this is not new but for any Zeppelin fans out there The BBC Sesions is a must have. All the greats done in a way you could not have seen coming. And the only CD I know of with Traveling Riverside Blues on it. Love that tune.
I guess the newest CD I have is Jett ==Get Borne great rock & roll CD. I hear AC/DC Guitar, Stones Bass, Great vocals and for the beatles fans out there the slow tunes (not my cup o tea but still done very well) are very Beatle/esk. Move on is the only slow song that does not sound Beatly and it sounds to me very southern rock like and my favorite slow one on the CD.
And to anyone that has not heard of The Toadies by now go out and buy Rubber Neck "I come from the watter" will always be one of my favorite songs EVER!
And for any Toadies fans left out there Vaden has a new band called "The Burden Brothers" CD name of "Burried in your black heart" Go get it NOW! Their re do of "Can't Let Go" Rocks! And the rest of the CD is also BAD ASS!

To what I recently listened after a long time was AL DI MEOLA´s Live album Tour de force. Jazz Rock instrumentals at it´s best. My recommendation for this week. I guess this kind of music deserves the attention of any guitarist, no matter if he is into jazz, blues or hard rock. This album is among my all time favorites! ;D Check it out...

Some time in March I bought Eric Clapton's new album "Me and Mr Johnson". I was actually at the store to buy some Dylan CD, but they had this clapton CD running, so when i heard it i changed my mind and bought this one instead. Great album, really! It's all RObert Johnson songs played by Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Jim Keltner and some other guys, don't remember right now, but really cool!

Hi All
Sometimes you discover an artist way too late..... I have only just found Houndog Taylor....... what a man, apparantly born with 6 fingers and his hand mutilated as a result of trying to remove offending digits, also given the wonderful name of Theodore Roosevelt Taylor at birth.
You guys probably familiar with him but what a man, I particularly like "give me back my wig !"

While we're on the subject, I checked out Al DiMiola's album "Splendido Hotel". Les Paul appears on one track, along with others I can't remember right now. I've already adopted some of his technique like the "Mutola"--playing really fast runs with your palm muting the strings. Very cool platter indeed.
Annother is an old one(1992) from the Black Crows--"Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" I know they cheesed out on later works, but this one is gold. They wrote most of it in the studio and had the tunes recorded in about a month. It has a continuity that no other rock album from that time had except maybe for the "BloodSugarSexMagic" from the Chiles.

i just got "Physical Graffiti" in my opinion one of the best zep albums ever.
its got some great stuff on it. Good ol Kashmir, some cool bass on Custard Pie, great acoustic stuff on Bron-Yr-Aur.
and some great other tracks like: houses of the holy, ten years gone, and the wanton song.

I just bought the Led Zeppelin 3 disc set How The West Was Won. Its really good, and all live. What I really like about it is the 30 minute long versions of Dazed and Confused (simply amazing) and Heartbreaker. It also has John Bonhams Moby Dick drum solo (the good one, about 18 minutes!!)

This week's CD for me is really a surprise as I normally would not listen to Nirvana. However in doing some research for some songs to teach my students I listened to Nirvana and while most of their stuff is not my cup of tea so to speak, I found their "Unplugged" CD to be decent to listen to.

All great recommendations, IIDSSM!
The CD that I "rediscovered" recently is Jeff Beck's (the original "Beck", but I like the other one as well) "Blow by Blow." Truly a monumental album, in my opinion. Phenomenal jazz/rock guitar playing and arrangement, and produced by George Martin to boot!
I had the original LP, but never got around to replacing it with a CD until about a month ago. It hasn't left my player since!

JoMan
I don't go with the flow on Mr Claptons tribute to RJ.
It is only my opinion, but I think the thing has been hyped out of all proportion, certainly here in the UK.... Eric has done better work and not received half the acclaim he has for this piece of work.
I personally think he was pur up to this to stimulate further interest in early Blues to get punters ready to buy all the re-masters of 40-50 yr old recordings that are about to hit the stores, mark my word.
This in MY opinion and I'm sure many will disagree. !!

well, you might be right about it, but in fact I hadn't heard about it when I went into the store, so it was love at first sight for me... clapton might have done better things, I don't know, sad truth is, I don't know too much of his work, just some cream things and a bit of the unplugged album. and I hadn't known all those johnson songs, i mean I had heard about him, but never actually heard any of his songs, I am just beginning to get into the whole blues thing, you know So it was a nice start for me.

Hey Steel Al Di Meola is a guitar monster. I have loved his stuff for a while now. Its not the kind of thing I play but it is great to listen to.
Mandough "Sothern Harmony A M C" has to be the Crows best work to date. I lost the CD and had almost forgotten how powerfull that thing is. I think I will go out and buy it and "Shake your money maker" right after I log off"
Another obscure six string trixter out ther is a guy by the name of Machael Lee Firkens <sp? To me he sounds like a cross between Jo Satriani, Steve Via, and Yingvee<sp? Malmstien. I really like a track of his called "Laughing Stacks"
Hey Zeppelin fans, will one or more of yall give some feed back on "The BBC Sesions" CD. It recharged Zeppelin for me, and I would love to hear what the rest of you think about it.
ROCK ON!
