Everyday I think more and more about emg actives. Now I've come to the point where Im ready to do what I said Id NEVER do - Mod the '56 goldtop. The more I play it the less I like its sound. I find the bridge to harsh and too shrill. And I find the neck to be on the muddy side.
Now I was just on the emg site and saw that the P90s are pretty much the same pickups as the humbuckers only made to fit the smaller cavity.
Does anyone have any experience with EMG actives especially the P90s. What are peoples thoughts, does it sound like a good idea?

Hi:samicksg.. I have no experience with the p90's but I don't think you can go wrong with the EMG's.I just put the Zakk set in my Epi Zakk, and it brought it to LIFE!!! ;D.In my opinion and it is just my opinion, there is no other pup set for me!!!The bridge pu is sharp and crisp and the neck pu has an awsome tone...There was no mods required on my guitar with the exception of a very small screwhole inside the pot cavity to screw the battery clip in..I know Steel said that batteries belong in flashlights...LOL but they work in guitars also... ;)Go for it.....you will be happy you did!!

Yea one of my buddies who plays also said he thought it was a good idea. I think to me a guitar is a personal thing. I found a guitar that plays nice and feels good just maybe doesn't sound as good as Id like. So Im gonna change it

By the way... make sure that the new pickups suit into the P90´s cavities of your guitar. I don´t think so. The EMGs are standard humbuckers sizewise. Maybe you need a luthier to make the cavities bigger, also make sure that new pickup rings cover the existing cavities of the soapbar P90´s.

Yup, as far as I know if you've got an epi 56 goldtop, the emg p90s are made to fit in there.

I did get instructions wit my zw set, but the .pdf file online look bad but does print out pretty good!!! I couldn't find any color instructions either!!! I ended up getting a guitar tech to install them for me....My soldering skills are crap...It only cost about $50cdn. And he did an awsome job :)Either way , your self or getting a tech to do it you won't be disapointed they rock!!! ;D

i am gonna do it myself.my soldering skills are pretty good.and i have all the tools. does it make the same difference on the gibb lp as on an epi lp?soundwise. the gibby was crystal clear yet loads of crunch when needed
