Hi Joe : For me the fret dress included leveling all the frets and polishing them. Wow what a diff. No buzzing at all and the frets are as smooth as glass now. ;D. I did have a problem like yours whith a buzz at a few frets and this fixed it.... Hi tekrek Thanks for the tip. I try to lower the action on the LP Custom again. It's slightly lower than before, but only just enough to prevent it from getting the strings buzzing at the higher frets. Perhaps, one day I'll do the fret dress, when I get hold of a good guitar tech. Joe

Well, I got my LP classic off ebay. It already had been cannibalized and someone had put a couple of washburn homs in there. So I just decided to mod the whole thing. new grover tuners new SD 59's in neck and bridge changed out all the pots from 250's to 500's new switch and chord receiver patch or whatever its called sounds sweet now

Mine is the Ebony Les Paul Standard- I changed the brown tophat knobs to the Black Speed Knobs. Changed my pickups to the EMG-ZW set. Had a friend of mine to put on a bone nut. And Had him set it up with lower action. I also took of the pickguard and the treble and Rhythm thing off....It has some buzzess but nothing you can hear through the amp....But man this has been my best playing guitar ever......

I have a 2002 LP Standard Plus, all stock parts. NO problems as of yet. I'll leave it alone unless something crucial develops Irish Mike

James,...
yer welcome,.....*S*
It is a "limited lifetime guarantee"
(the KEY word being "limited" as in limitations)
Steelpriest posted the Epiphone warranty link on the main Epifriends site, (in the FAQ section),so everyone has access to it whenever.

Hmmm... still it´s not very reasonable to me that changing pickups voids the warranty, but unfortunately it does. Well, I suggest to keep the original parts at least a couple of months when you modify a brandnew guitar. When no problems occur after a couple of months you can be quite sure that the guitars is okay, ...crappy switchs and pots don´t cost that much that it would be worth to struggle and argue around claiming warranty. Here in Germany things are different anyway concerning warranty, but what I read in the term concerning this "limited life time warranty" for most of you it will definitely mean that any modification does actually void the warranty. In any case! DOH! Old buddy Wicked Wishes pointed it out correctly: "limited" does not refer to life time, limited does actually mean "limitation"...

I've thought about this for a while, and it seems that the only way to circumvent the "limited lifetime guarantee" is (while your Epi is still in its "warranty") to have ANY wanted modifications performed by a certified Epiphone warranty repair station. Problems being: #1,...limited authorized locations. #2,...what precise modifications/additions/changes will be accepted by Epiphone,.. #3,...knowing that you are paying someone to do what you can do yourself for free. Anyway,..my advice, (for what its worth), is to contact Epiphone and ask em' yourself. (leave out the middleman) Just my thoughts,.. ^5 ya'll WickedWishes

Yeah, ask Epiphone, and if they tell you one thing then make sure to throw it back in their face if they try to change their mind. ;D
One thing to note though, I'm not sure who originally said it, the warranty is made to cover manufacturer's defects (and not simply free repairs whenever something breaks). If your guitar is made well, then the body/neck/etc. won't break (and wouldn't be covered by warranty anyway). The only things that would break that would be covered in the warrarty are stuff like the pots/pickup switch/wires...I dunno.
Those probably won't break, and if they do it's not very expensive to replace. "Limited Lifetime Warranty sounds nice, but it doesn't do much other than cover things that broke when the guitar was new (hence the term manufacturer's defects). The warranty isn't for normal wear, and warranty is voided for any unofficial repairs/mods/or unoriginal owners because they don't want to be paying for anything if it wasn't obviously the fault of the manufacturer.

...both my AJ-10 and my Dot are stock...no modifications....
....................that's the official answer...........................
…now I want to let y’all in on a little secret that I have....
…on the weekends when my wife and daughter go shopping....
...I take the pickguard off the Dot…I unscrew the retaining nut of the p/u selector switch…I have this black washer that I put on the switch…then screw the retaining nut back on…I take a framed Epi ad of John Lennon...playing Get Back up on the roof...out from behind the sofa and hang it on the rec-room wall....
…I set the Valvetronix to one of those God-forsaken overdrive settings at 60 watts…and for a brief moment I’m "JL on the roof"…I practice my weekly music lesson…if it’s Saturday…I practice Sunday’s folk music for church....
…then it’s over…all too soon....
…the washer comes off…the pickguard goes back on…the picture goes back behind the sofa…the amp goes back to its acoustic setting at 15 watts....
…then...they return from shopping…”hi dear…how’s your practice”…”fine…how was your shopping....”

I wouldn't necessarily call this a mod, but I removed the PU covers on my LP yesterday.. I never realized how much wax there is inside a PU(!).. anyway, I sort of cleaned the top, and left the rest there.. Would it damage anything to take the rest of the wax off?
And I'm pretty sure the tone changed slightly without the covers..

I believe if you take the rest of the wax off your guitar it will feedback something tearable. and the covers should go back on as well.

err.. it still sounds great, nothing wrong with the sound.. and the covers doesnt do anything but protect the coils and stuff inside.. I dont think it would harm anything to simply take them off, lots of people do.
