My G-400 is in an Epi Case that I bought at the same time as the guitar and my Les Paul Standard Plus is in a Guitar Research hardshell case that is similar to the Epi case.

SKB....SKB....SKB......
SKB are the way to go. By the way, the smell is more minty than anyhting....kind of like paint. Or uerathane.
And by the by, the black chipboard cases with the charcola gray interiors are made by TKL up north of me in Canada...

Both my Epis now live in good Epi cases. I say "now" b/c my Chet Atkins was stuffed in an Epi gig bag which barely fit for about two months while the hardshell case was on order from Epiphone. So it finally came in the mail last week! I think it's cool the TKL case now says "Epiphone" on the front.
I have an EJ-160e in an Epi case with only the letter "E" on it. Someone though it was a communist symbol and asked if I got my guitar in Russia or something! I like having the name spelled out on my Chet's case.
I'll tell you another reason I love Epi cases: IMO, they don't make you as much of a "target" as carrying an LP guitar case which says "Gibson USA" on it. I travel a lot and I've heard stories of people getting gear stolen by taxi drivers, on buses, airports, etc...

I carry my '04 Custom Plus in a mighty fine SKB case. I did notice the aroma emitting from within. But I kinda like it. I am glad they gave me the key to the case .........now I never have to worry about anyone stealing my LP. Nothing like feeling secure???

I have a SKB case for my Les Paul, and it too has that odor....
One thing I am careful about when removing or replacing my guitar in the SKB is to be careful about the metal edge of the case- don't knock the guitar against it!
