The AVT series of amps use 1 Pre-amp tube (everything else is solid state), and from what I understand the amp can function normally without that tube.
I would suggest having the amp checked out by an amp tech.

Yeah. A 12ax7 tube aint too expensive though, so why don't you try replace it?

I had an AVT50 and can tell you it is not an easy process to change the tube because of the way they mounted the chassis in cabinet.
