The AVT series of amps use 1 Pre-amp tube (everything else is solid state), and from what I understand the amp can function normally without that tube. I would suggest having the amp checked out by an amp tech.

Yeah. A 12ax7 tube aint too expensive though, so why don't you try replace it?

I had an AVT50 and can tell you it is not an easy process to change the tube because of the way they mounted the chassis in cabinet.

I had an AVT50 and can tell you it is not an easy process to change the tube because of the way they mounted the chassis in cabinet. Hmm, is it placed inside some kind of metal box? I think the valvestates had that kind of construction, and it seemed like a pretty weird placement for a tube.
