I have a question regarding changing tuning pegs. I have been playing guitar for many years but have never had a reason to change tuning pegs in any of my guitars. I currently have a '96 G400 and an '02 Les Paul Standard, Thay both have the stock "Kluson" type pegs in them. I would like to change them to the die cast type (Grover). Will the die cast tuning pegs add sustain to the guitar? In other words, will these new tuning pegs make the guitar more "solid" sounding. I have noticed that both Gibson and Epiphone are producing their guitars now with the Grovers in them. Is the reason because of the sound or just that they are a more stable peg? Thanks in advance for any answers to my question!

Tuning Stability is better on the Grover's. Anything that makes a guitar more stable is going to make it sound better.

Well, CAFeathers is right and I second his opinion. But I dare to doubt that different tuners have an effect on sustain. Also I think Grovers don´t suit a Les Paul lookwise, maybe try Schaller tuners, they have models with perloid "tulips" that look like the Kluson original design. The Schallers are absolutely beyond any question concerning their quality. If holes in the headstock don´t suit for the new tuners and need to be wider, ream them out manually, don´t use an electric borer... (sorry guys for repeating this all the time, but it can´t be mentioned too often...)

Grover does make Chrome and Gold tuners with metal Tulips that look pretty good on Gibson style guitars.

Oh yes? D'oh! Didn´t know that! Yes, indeed... a Les Paul must have "tulip" style tuner wings...

Thanks guys for the information. I agree that the tulips look best on Les Pauls. Just something about them. I will check into it. Have a great day!!!

I personally cant stand having the stock Kluson type tuners on most gibsons and some epiphones. In my opinion, they are just ugly and look cheap. But whatever you like best....

Amazingly different opinions... hehe! "Whatever you like best" is seemingly the only answer when it comes to the look of a guitar. To me a Les Paul is a very traditional, to be honest "vintage", design. So in my book Les Pauls MUST have tulip tuner wings... I prefer those perloid ones... Just my opinion though...
