Looking at cabs for my new amp I came across these on ebay. Anyone know anything about them ? I like the flexibility on speakers and covering. www.avatarspeakers.com

Never heard of them, but I like the look of the cab. But now look at the top of the same page at the Celestion clearance deal. G12H80 for $42.00 a piece. Oh my god what a deal. For that price you could buy 2 or 4 and make your own cab or find an old cab with blown speakers and swap em out with the G12H80s. You can't go wrong with Celestion speakers. Just make sure you have the power to push those 80 watt speakers.

My amp is a crate 50 wt tube amp. should have plenty of power. can't decide whether i want a 2x12 or a 4x12. the 4x12 sounds nice, but the way i move around...my back hurts now just thinking about it. They do look nice though. and i agree about the speakers, that's a heck of a deal. still have a couple of months to decide and save up. ;D

My brother has an Avatar 2x12 and says for the price you can't go wrong with them.
I'm looking into getting one myself.

these Avatars look great. I sure am glad there are forums like this where we can share great info, and the G.A.S.
So, I will expand the question a bit. I have been playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deville 212. But I am thinking about changing - and the Avatar looks great. But what head would you recommend? For classic to current rock, a good all around amp head- at an inexpensive price? I think I would prefer tubes still, but the digital amps are getting a lot better. I play in a band and need to be heard!
TIA for your help.

It depends on what you consider as inexpensive... Have you tried a Marshall AVT head? I think they are quite versatile and good sounding and not too expensive, well okay... they are hybrids but solid state technology has evolved amazingly, and you won´t have trouble with defective power amp section tubes, etc...

...just a thought...nobody's said anything about what criteria they have for a cabinet..........
...I'd suggest looking at a Mesa Boogie Thiele 1x12 if you're concerned with space or weight/portability..........
...it won't blow the doors/windows out of the house...well I haven't tried...it does turn my 1x12 Vox into a very wide 2x12..............
...the size would compliment most 1x12's...like a Blues Jr...etc................

scoping an ebay auction. has anyone used a combo cabinet and converted it for a cab ? looking at one. has a nice vintage look to it and its a 16 ohm cab....2 x 12 which fits my needs. do they made good extension cabs for a combo ? i figure some of you have tried or seen this done. i'm thinking of making a serious bid on this one .

Nice looking cab. Those speakers would not be my first choice of Eminence speakers. I like the Patriot/Redcoat series.

Well, I bit on the empty 2 x 12 maple cab. Now I need to shop for a couple of speakers for it. Looked at the Celestions and the Eminence. Have it narrowed to a G12H30 celestion, eminence GB12or maybe Governor or Swamp thang. I play mainly blues and rock, want a warm sound thats not harshly bright. open to suggestions

Eminence "Texas Heat", "The Governor", and "The Tonker" are all supposed to great speakers.

Did your cab arrive yet? I'm interested in how well it is put together.

not yet. I'm curious myself. i'll let you know when I get it. The other cab that I was looking at. The one you looked at. I bid on it too. (I really am an ebay junkie) Low bid. Got it for less than $43. Curious about that one too. I'll probably wait a bit and sell that one to pay for the empty cabinet. The texas heats should be here any day.
