Guys,
How are Agile guitars right out of the box? I mean, do they have to be set up to be any good or are they shipped ready to play?
I'm considering getting one of their short-scale basses on looks and price alone, of which I've never even heard any reviews....
Any suggestions?

generally you have to set them up. i think they do a quick setup at the store but after travel they need a little adjustment to suit your particular taste. my two weren't too bad out of the box, i just changed strings and tweaked it a bit. haven't tried the basses but i've thought of getting one of the SX P-style basses for awhile just to tinker around a bit.

I had one of the short scale basses and while it was playable (after a set up) I would leave them to the beginner.

I used to have a real Fender brand one years ago, after I sold my Precision and Jazz full-size basses; though the sound wasn't as full, it was something to use in a pinch. But nowadays I don't have the dexterity or grip pressure to play a full-size neck (I tried at Sam Ash), so I was thinking about a short-scale -- but I probably won't get one....

I am now in a second praise band and play Bass, and play a regular scale Sx Bass. It plays nicely, and I cant tell the difference between it and a MIM Fender. It really came alive after I had mine setup. YMMV

Are you talking about Agiles or SX basses? Although I haven't seen an Agile bass, Agiles are generally very high quality for the money and my AL-3000M came nicely set up right out of the box. Kurt's a great guy and handles all issues promptly and gives excellent customer service. While he also sells SX and Douglas guitars, they are more entry level and quality is not as consistent. Just looking at the website, I see the higher end basses are called Brice. If they are on par with Agile, you'll be surprised at the quality. I've owned or purchased 6 guitars from Rondo Music and 5 of those were SX models. Each of those had an issue of some kind. All of the SX models I've had are gone now. My Agile is still with me and I'm not letting it go. Stick with the Agiles/Brice and you won't go wrong. JMO
