it started with an itch about six months ago. i've always like the feel and the sound and simplicity of a telecaster. i was surfing ebay and came across a telecaster body, solid mahogany...nice piece of wood. i thought..hmmm..i can make something different with that, a mahogany tele. put some custom pups and make it special. well since then i found the body was some wierd alternative wood from brazil that was way light and not what i thought (i have since put on a $26 jay turser neck and play it without pickups as a beater around the house) i went ahead and bought a nice mahogany body from warmoth and made a custom guitar that just plain rocks. in the middle of my third project tele, this one done in padouk....alot heavier than mahogany with a padouk neck and rosewood fret. using vintage tele pickups for this one. no finish on this guitar...its played raw wood....the feel is smooth and incredible. hard to believe. i'll have pics when completed, gorgeous piece of wood. haven't finished this one and i'm already thinking of a fourth done with standard ash and a buttercotch blond finish done in nitro. this is a serious disease. i'm sitting here with almost 4 teles thinking...i need another. but the twang.....start listnening to danny gatton.....dick dale.....alot of ventures lately.....what a sound. i'm one sick puppy
rock hard play hard eat hard sleep hard and wear glasses if ya need em

Well, I currently have three Teles so I know of what you speak. But -- correct me if I'm wrong -- isn't Dick Dale a Strat man? And I remember the Ventures with Mosrite guitars, though they may have started off with Jaguars and Jazzmasters and other Fenders (as did Carl Wilson) but not Teles. For sure Steve Cropper and James Burton used Teles, though, and the tone Jim Messina gets sure sounds like a Tele to me....

Dick Dale was/is a strat guy....but its surf music and i hear twang, the ventures...i definitely hear twang there...sounds like a tele. i've also been listening to roy buchanon and i like old blues so muddy waters too. i saw him live around 15 yrs ago. just something disctinctive about it. debating whether to put a p-90 in the padouk one. i have vintage single coil to put in there but not sure yet. need to get a pick gaurd for it. i'll post pictures when i finish.

Cool! I'm looking forward for those pics! I know what you mean about teles. I'm not a fender kind of guy, but teles really speak to me.

I`m with you guys. I`ve been to a lot of guitar shops, and somehow I always seem to migrate to the Teles, especially the `72 Tele Thinline in Swamp Ash with the maple neck and fingerboard, and dual Humbuckers, with a plain black pickguard, and possibly all black hardware............holy crap I`m in the Cu$tom $hop now. Help! $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Isn`t G.A.S. a wonderful disease?

I'd say GAS is probably the fastest spreading disease in the whole internet...
