I encounter string buzz problems between the 12th and 14th fret on the E, A and D strings when I try to adjust my gauge10s strings for a lower action on my Les Paul Custom. The minimum action height that I can set to to avoid buzzing is about 4mm.
Is the 4mm action height at the 12th fret considered normal or a tad too high? I have checked with the Gibson Customer Care Guide and the standard measurement for electric guitar is stated as 2.38mm (6/64 in) with the Bass E at the 12th fret.
Ideally, I would want it around 2.5mm or 3mm at the 12th fret.
I have done numerous adjustments with the bridge and saddle and just can't seemed to solve the problem. I have not tried any truss rod adjustments as I don't have the tools to do it. Neither do I have any experience in doing this adjustment. But the neck does seemed fairly straight.

Sorry man I can't even atempt to guess why that would be. If I am understanding you correctly then I would have it looked at by a pro.

Take it and have it looked at by a Guitar Tech.
