Just got this last week. It's a 335 style, but with a bit of a point in the cutaways. I took in my Artcore AS-73, and my Epi Alleykat to trade in for this one. As much as I liked either one of those guitars, neither one had even half the tone and playability of this Artstar model. My G.A.S. urges have faded like the sunset with this one. It's tobbacco sunburst, and has all gold hardware, and five layer binding front, back and headstock, and has a bound fingerboard and f-holes.
The pickups are Ibanez Super 58's and sound great. Very full, and clear if I pick light, and they sqeual if I dig in. I had a set of Alan Holdsworth humbuckers delivered , originaly to go into the AS-73, but now they will get to live in the AS-120, and the Super 58's will go into my AK-85, which is a full hollow box with a spruce top. I can't wait ! !
The frets are Jumbo size, and are larger than the ones on the AS-73, and the same as on the Alleykat. The store I got it from believes in a good set-up for guitars on the wall, so it's perfect with 10's now, but I'm taking it in for the free setup today, and I'll have a set of 11's put on. I've found lately that 10's are just too slinky, and 11's give me enough pressure back to make it feel nice. And 11's will positively wake this wood up. I'll keep you guys posted, and tell you how the AH pickups sound.
To make a long post even longer , I must use this last line to say that if you're in the market for an Artcore 335, look around to find an Artstar instead. They are out of production, so the prices will be going up, but they are worth more money anyway. Pro level tone and playability for 1/3 the price of the Gibson. Go Ibanez.
