I think this is the most appropriate page to post this one, as this IS an Epi site...lol
Last night, a friend was over to practice with the band he and my room-mate are in, and he let it slip, right before he left, that he had a 1978 Les Paul, and he wanted to get rid of it (!!!) and would liberate it for a paltry sum of $$. Needless to say, my interest was piqued, and my GAS engine fired up.
Then I realized that it was a pipe dream, and that I had just bought a Ibanez AS-120 a couple of months ago(superb), so the chances of my wife telling me to get real was more than enough for me to quell the urge.
Well, of all the things to go unexpectedly right, my wife, upon hearing about this one and price, said " With the new ones going for $2200.00 bucks, you can't afford not to get this one."
Silence, except for my jaw making contact with the floor.
I went and spoke to my friend, and he agreed to let me make payments, and let me take it home with me the same day, but get this---it's a wine red Custom ! ! I've seen Studios go for the same price he asked me, so I think this is a steal. The new ones go for 3,000 bucks, and I got this for less than one third of that sum.
Of, course, it needed a serious cleaning and a new set of DR 11-50, and the finish work isn't flawless (little bit of glue-squeeze on the inlays), but it's close enough, and the intonation was really close for a 27 year old guitar. Playability is great, and she is a resonant girl. Tonight, I'll set her up for good, and then I'll have the guitar I've wanted since I was 14.
It feels like this one just fell in my lap, and I'm a REALLY happy man...
