Hey everyone, I was in the local shop the other day and say a sweet squier strat with a gold finish and white pick gaurd, simply classic, and the best part is its only $275 Canadian (which means $200 for me from this guy) Seemed ok to me quality wise however, I never had a chance to plug it in. What are some of your experineces with squiers?

In my recent quest for a new american strat, i did play a few squiers, and like every lower end guitar there are alot of bad ones, and a few absolute gems. I played a blue one in particular one day in a store that for playability destroyed all of the chinese epis i have recently tried. With some new fender fat 50's single coils this thing would have been killer. The sales guy there also mentioned that ALL fenders come with pretty much the same tone/volume pots , 5 way switch, and cord jack, so these wont have to be replaced like "certain offshore" manufacturers. If your fingers and ears tell you to buy it, then go for it, a killer guitar should never be passed up, even if it is cheap.

Im not a fan of Squiers. If I were in your position, I would save up another $150 and get a Standard Strat. But thats just my opinion, if you really like the way a Squier sounds, then you should buy it.

im not really a fan of fender guitars. my hands are small so it's a hard reach for some reason. i dont care for the shape of the neck, but they sound great.

Squiers are a good value for the money. I bought an Affinity Telecaster. It had a awesome sound.
They are MUCH better than they were 2 - 3 years ago. I would have put them in the "firewood" category at that time.
I'd say this, Start witha Squier to make sure that you like the tone of either a telecaster or a Strat before spending the extra cash on a MIM Standard.
JMHO....

ive got an affinity strat and it is a cool guitar. easy to play, nice sound and cheap enough to enjoy without fear of wrecking. yes the pickups arnt shit hot and the jacks a little dodgy but when it comes down to it for the price it plays and looks beaut. it aint a brilliant guitar but it aint bad either
give it a closer look and mabey a play....

My opinion on squiers is dated since I have not picked one up in years. But going on my past experience with squiers I coined a phrase.
"I would not even light a fire with a squier."
But its your choice not mine and RB is absolutely correct, if you like it get it.

Nah I had to pass...While playing it, the little voice in my head didn't scream "this thing rocks!"
It felt kinda cheap and it didn't sound very warm at all. I figure I'll spend the money somewhere else. Im thinking towards a marshall half stack or some emg pickups and effects. We'll see what happens

Yes, trust the little voice... It seems to me that the MIM strats seem nicer than the squiers that I've tried... Any ideas on that?
