I am thinking about wall hangers for my guitars to save a bit of room in my home. The question is, and please don´t consider me as weird when I ask: If you hang a guitar on the wall what effect does it have on the neck? I mean the whole weight of the guitar will probably have an effect on the set up... Will I need to readjust the truss rod? I really fear that the weight of the body will straighten the necks somewhat and cause string on fret buzzing. Yes, I know in stores the new guitars are also on wall hangers often... Hmmm, I think a conventional guitar stand does a guitar better. What is your opinion? Or better, what are your experiences? Yes, hehe, I might be too afraid for my lovely guitars...

Steele,
I read on a Fender forum about hanging guitars causing them to need truss rod adjustments more often, but as for my experience I have not seen it.
Maybe it has more of an effect with bolt-on necks than set-in ones? That, too, I don't know. I personally had my Epi LP Standard (with set-in neck) hanging for over a year with no problem, and a Ventura Les Paul copy with bolt-on neck has been hanging over three years with no evidence of damage -- it has real low action, so I think I'd notice.
The hanger brand I use has a swiveling "fork" that you slide the neck into (which even holds Fenders good, though they're angled near the head), so I figured it'd be more gentle than a fixed one.
Still, for something rare and valuable especially, I'd limit "hang time" -- and, that way you could rotate your axes on display!

I have seen wall hangers that consist of 2 parts the upper fork to hold the neck and a lower cradle to support the guitar. I can't find any examples at this time but I can't imagine one would be that hard to make. If you are good with wood or know someone that is. Just make shure you hit those wall studs when you mount it to the wall. Personaly I would never use a standard wall hanger even if I didn't have kids. I would be afraid of stumbling into it while drunk or something. Plus the neck thing. ;D

Guitar stores all use lots of wall hangers, but I guess for short term use it isn't a problem. That, and you can't show off all you instruments if they're all in cases.
A hanger like Zac was talking about would be good though, basically like a floor stand except that it attaches to the wall instead of sitting on the floor.
It's hard to describe, but I saw some wall hangers at a guitar store that have a little arm on each side of thing that holds the neck of the guitar up (on the wall hangers) and the weight of the guitar causes them the rotate up so they are both pointing horizontally inward so that the guitar can't fall out of the hanger. At least then you don't have to worry about knocking it over or off the stand.

Well, I have to think it over... hmmm, but on the other hand I am never that drunk that I might stumble into my guitars and knock them over, no kids, no wife... hmm, my guitars are safe! ;D I just want more room to put up maybe an additional couch and a table, the collection of guitars is spread around the room and every morning when I wake up I think: "Doh, this must be a guitar store!" Imagine my home as a big attic, I am actually living and sleeping in this weird kind of homestudio with lots of guitars and gear... only got a kitchen and a bathroom... *sigh* ;D

Come to think of it she mentioned guitar stores too but not in a good way... Hmmm...lol, maybe you name shoe stores then! ;D Men must have their guitars, and wives can have their collection of shoes. On the other hand if I had a wife that would argue with me about too many guitars I´d feel free to ask if she´d like a husband with no guitars better, but what if this guitarless guy came home drunk every day? We all got our vice... hehe! ;D Thank god, it´s only guitars in our case!

When I get G.A.S. I have to keep it on the down low. I squirl away the money over time and then just go get what I was after. The ol lady hits the roof for about a week then she comes to terms with it. We have had some earth shattering throw downs, but she never has lifted a finger to harm any of my equipment. We had a talk about that early on and she know that kind of thing would send me packing. No if', and's or but's.

Wall hangers have a NO from me. Too many chances for it to fall or warp over time. I don't give a shit about displaying my axes, and so I put them in the case with a humidifier and put the case on its side. This lets the guitar stay in the same attitude it is in when it is played, and adds no other pressure to any part of the body or neck.
