I have always wanted some but just never knew if they were as good as some people claim they are. Maybe I can modify the poll to add a catagory like that. Nope it won't let me. Well my bad. So I guess I will have to go with take em or leave em. ;D

I use Dunlop Strap Locks on my Ibanez Bass, of course this was after the strap let loose twice. The first time a caught the bass just before it hit the ground. But the next time I was not ready for it and it hit the carpit, man i was pissed. So after that I bought starp locks for it. I don't have any on my new Epi Allen Woody Bass. The leather strap I got for it is very snug.

Strap locks are a must! Look, what Khan wrote, same happened to me, but I caught the guitar, nothing serious happened. It was a long time ago, but ever since then the first modification I make on a new guitar is Strap Locks. I use the Schaller Security Locks, they are most reliable. In the beginning I used to buy complete sets of locks, I own many different straps for my guitars meanwhile and all are equipped with the locks, now I found out that the nice people of Göldo (a manufacturer of hardware like pots, tailpieces, nuts, etc.) has guitar end pins that match the Schaller locks, so there is no need to buy a complete set of Schallers for a new guitar. These Göldo end pins are cheap, about 2 bucks for two. To cut it short: I never play a new guitar standing, I only dare from the moment on when it is modified with strap locks. Imagine your guitar fallen to the ground and being severely damaged... YIKES!

Well I was lucky the carpit was very soft and my ibanez did not sustain any damage, unless you want to count the heart attack I had as one.

Since I am a beginner, all of my practice and what playing I do is sitting down, with my Epi-LP nestled securely on my leg. However I do forsee the time that I will be using a strap and standing up playing, so I have allready purchased a set of "Dunlop" strap locks for my baby. I have not installed them as of yet, but I will soon.

I use them, for the same reason as the avbove mentioned.....Nothing sounds so bad, as a guitar hitting the floor, and the screams of agony from it's owner......

I'm about where WickedWishes is. It's fun to play standing and with a strap sometimes. I haven't gotten any strap locks, but I'll consider it when my LP starts to leave the bedroom more often. ...better carpet than a tile floor though Khan

a nice washer, my strap never comes off of my guitar, ever, sounds ghetto but it works. i never have to wonder "what if" that lock malfunctions.

hey,
i was considering straplocks a while ago,
then,
some one told me about "sure lock" straps(search google and youll find their website).
they have a plastic clip arrangement on the ends which lock onto your standard strap button. I have mine a while now and it is yet to slip off or anything like that. You can change it between guitars too, which you cant do with strap locks...
I actually had a longer strap attached to mine because it was a bit runty (and i play metal, so...) ... but it is a good concept anyway. check it out before you modify your precious axes.
hope this is of intrest

Doesn't matter the type or style. I always play and practice standing up. Once you've had a guitar hit the floor you'll be running to your local guitar store to pickup a set. However, if you always play sitting down there's really no reason to have them.
Giging I wouldn't be without them. Playing in my living room I may be standing but I'm not moving much so I'm not too worried.
