I am a little late posting here on my new (to me) 1983 Gibson Sonex 180 Deluxe. I picked it up in a trade. Since I got it it has received a fret job, new bridge and tailpiece, straplocks, and will be getting new Bill Lawrence pickups. I still have just 3 Gibson's because my SG was sold.

Well I haven't become a Gibson snob yet.. I don't have a Gibson yet! haha...I love my epi SG and I'm waiting for UPS to deliever my epi LP Classic TODAY!! But I admit I would love to have at least one Gibson someday, but with 2 kids and too many bills that day will have to wait.

No matter how much you love your epi (like I do too), something happens when you play a good Gibson. Should never had touched that R8 and R9)...

Oh yeah. I played a classic and Standard about a week ago, and they both sounded dead, were heavy and had a terrible setup. They were very pretty though, so I bet some poor bastard will buy it not knowing what hes doing. The historics seem to have less dogs than the USA production, but I played a standard 50's neck in iced tea, and it was featherweight, very acoustacily loud, and the finish was flawless. It had me hypnothised for an hour. It was probably the best gibson I have ever played. I have played a few nice standard faded too. The faded finish seem to contribute to tone, but they arent very attractive (IMHO), and they seem to only come in 60's neck in Sweden, and it's too thin for me.

Yeah, used is an alternative I guess. I'm itching for an R8, but it'll take years untill I can get it, so I try not to think about it too much (but hey, who has the power over GAS?).

You're getting the deluxe too? Nice! I'd like one of those for some thin lizzy tunes. If the mini hums don't do it for you, you have a great P-90 routed guitar.

...And now I'm really going to pull the reigns in on this GAS thing I've been dealing with as of late. Yeah, right -- I've heard (and said) that before....
