-they're afraid PRS will totally blow the Gibson product away. Won't ever happen. PRS puts out a quality product to be sure, in some cases maybe even better than Gibson. But over all Gibson has been out selling and outdoing PRS, and unless they just start turning out crap Gibson IMHO always will. Gibson as a name and a product is just too deeply seated in the music tradition to be toppled by PRS or any other guitar manufactuer. At least thats probly how they feel about it down at Gibson. And thats why they keep putting bigger and bigger price tags on their guitars, plus it keeps costing more to make them. Just my opinion mind you. And yes I am a die hard Gibson fan and quite biassed. I hate the out of reach price of most Gibson guitars too. But its like anything else you pay for the quality THEN you pay for the name. And on that note PRS is higher priced than Gibson where I come from. I am not saying you are wrong, I just don't agree with your opinion.

You're so right. Gibson still , even through the problems, makes the very best cunstructed guitars. PRS wasn't using the ol' battering ram on the keep door yet but Gibson , I think, acted to "nip it in the bud" before it got to that point. Now PRS has to further develop other ideas that aren't so well proven.

It's just my opinion, so feel free to dissagree, but I like the Single better cause it has clearer, more well rounded PUPs, has a wider neck with a good fat size, was very heavy, had as much or more sustain, and costs less in the stores around this area. All in all a better value for MY money, but I still stand on my statement that Gibby is still tops overall.

I only just found this thread. In the UK, Gibson Mid range such as LP Standard are less expensive than PRS equivalent, but PRS starting to seriously catch them in sales...... what does that tell ya I don't know either, all I know is that Gibson have enjoyed the traditional "hallowed" territory for too long, in MOHO they have been overpriced for far too long, 'bout time someone ran them round the block. One of my hero's is Mr Santana, he has used Gibbo SG's, LP's (multitude of models) and yet he continues to spout the virtues of PRS (doubtless the endorsement fees help) but he does play the things on stage, I'd love to own a PRS and hope they chase Gibbos ass right down the alley, can only benefit us all in the long run Chris - UK

Gibson should make a PRS like double cut les paul. The style of the PRS double cut is really catching on, it's pricy, but looks awesome and seems to be popular among newer guitarists. I made a post earlier about how I prefered that PRS look to the Gibson LP DC. The Gibson looks older and classy, but they don't make nearly the number of double cuts compared to the normal Les Paul design, and they don't make the semi-hollowbody DC type either. I say throw it back at them and take their popular double cut idea and apply it to the Les Paul to drum up more business for those who think it looks cool and want the extra access. Heck, I'd buy one...no, not really, it would be too expensive for me...oh well

I agree with your idea. I bought a Ibanez Artist 250 which is just really an LP clone but with double cutaways. Mahogany body and maple top and two volume, two tone control setup. It's really a very sweet guitar for some pretty small change and sounds terrific after I put a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in the neck and a Seymour Duncun Custom in the bridge. I think they've updated to the Artist 300 or 350 by now. There's also a very much more expensive model of the same guitar but I've never tried it.

Come on, Gibson will never go 'down' as long as there are guitarplayers out there.. Even if someone can't afford a Gibson LP Standard right away, or even an Epi LP, if they get into guitars, they probably will want a real LP sometime..
And, because of the legendary status of the Bursts, because of Page, Slash, Clapton, Beck (the list goes on), and because they are really good guitars, people will always pay for Gibson LPs. They don't need to sue PRS for making good guitars, Gibbys rep will keep them alive..

Ibanez has a top of the artist line axe named the AR3000vv The vv is for he vinage violin finish. It comes with the cloud tailpiece, and Super 58 PUPs. It's my next one for sure.
