Hi Everybody, I am a newbie and was wondering if anyone out there has tried the Epi Blues Custom. I have a Elitist Casino which I absolutely love and have been trying to decide on an amp. From the little bit that I've read this sounds like it might be a good match. I would very much like to plug her into a Vox AC 30 CC 2x12 but there seems to be a lot of quality issues now that Vox has moved to China. Any suggestions ? Bart

Hello! First of all congratulations on your Casino, it's a great guitar! I've never tried the Elitist but I've played the standards and I own the JL model, you know, the P-90 just can't be beat, I love the P-90 sound.
You know the Voxes.... I believe the new AC30s are pretty cool, and that comes from a die hard purist. But seriously the CC line is cool. I own an AC30CCX2 (or is it CC2X?, dunno the one with the blue speakers) and I love it. Trem and Reverb are OK, not as nice as on a Twin Reverb or something, but really OK. I love the normal channel, just a volume control and brilliance switch + the tone cut in the master section. and i love the channel linking feature, gives the top boost channel some more basis. and by the way the AC30 goes very nicely with a casino....
concerning quality issues: well ive seen quite a number of them and so far there was only one we had problems with (i used to work at a music store). i dont really remember what was wrong though. i'd have to ask my colleagues.
about the epi amp: i dont know this model. the only one I know is the small one, I tried the top once and wasn't very impressed but then again it was only about 150 euros for a tube amp, hey.
tube amps that I'm quite fond of are the fender hot rods, but they have some sharp highs and tend to sound quite hard compared to the higher end fenders. but still, i like them. i own an older made in usa tweed pro junior which I use mainly for harp --> very cool.
anyway, what's my point? i dont know, got lost. Summary: I dont know the Epi Blues Custom, but I think there are better options. I can recommend the new Voxes (though I've never tried the AC15s, might be interesting) from my own experience, I prefer the Blue Bulldogs cause they sound a little smoother and have more basis in the lows, but that's jsut my humble opinion and they are about 500 extra I think.
I hope I haven't confused you too much, keep it up and take care of that casino!

Hey JoMan Thanks for your input. If you get the chance you really have to try the Elitist if you are a Casino fan ! Simply Amazing ! Yea yea yea you gotta love the P90's That is why I would love a Vox. The Epi Blues Custom just came out 6 months ago so not too much info yet but the set up is similar to the AC30, that is two 12's , all tube and Class A with switch-ability. It is my belief that the 30 watt pushing 2 12's with channel blending approaches the AC30 sound. But I have, as yet, not heard one. Thanks Again

Bart,
Good to hear from another Casino fan! In what way(s) do you feel the Elitist version is better? The John Lennon model is awfully hard to top!
Anyway, back to your question: no, I haven't heard the Epi Blues Custom amp either, but my Casino sounds good through anything clean, especially an AC30 or Fender Twin or Super Reverb.

Well if I get to get my hands on one of the bigger Epi amps I'll certainly check it out and tell you!

Now, keep in mind that the BC has 5881 tubes in it, and if you're thinking it'll sound a lot like an AC30, you're in for a surprise. It's going to have an old style Fenderish thing going on...more tweed than Twin, but gutsier than the AC30. Part of the magic of the AC30 is those EL84 bottles getting fried.
