My new Epi LP standard just arrived! Had it shipped to my workplace......I think I feel a sudden illness coming on that will force me to go home early!!!!
It's a chinese made 2004....complete with Grovers. It looks absolutely perfect! Can't wait to plug her in!! ;D

Thanks..I'll do that!
Has anyone noticed any difference in quality with Chinese vs Korean made Epi's? I hope she sounds as good as she looks which is flawless...no excess glue seepage or anything like that.

I noticed the Chinese built Epi's to be of better quality, which of course extends to the sound.

OK..so it's official.....I LOVE this guitar!! I need to tweak the pup height...the low E string's a bit weak compared to the other strings..but other than that I'm very happy with it. I'm still planning to install the new pots and caps I got..I just don't have the heart to gut her yet. My Korg tuner, on the other hand, which worked real well with the active pup in my Ovation..does not work so great with the LP. There's no output jack so I can't place it in my signal chain. My options...place it next to the amp and use the tuner's mike...or plug the output from my DS-1 into it with the distortion dialed off...the DS-1 pre-amps it just enough for the tuner to read. I'm not real happy with either of those methods though. Tuner recommendations?

I think the Boss TU-2 is, for the cash($80.00 US), as good as it gets. It dosen't have a microphone in it... it only uses the signal from the guitar plugged into the input, and it has the output jack to go to the amp. It tracks REALLY well and is very accurate. Best part is, it mutes for silent tuning...no standing there going "ding-ding-ding"

Thanks..I'll look into that.
My Korg did work much better last night after I threw a new battery in it! Oh well...I never claimed to be too swift!

Well I've got four other tuners, but the only one I consider consistent and reliable is the BOSS TU-12. My guitar tech has two of 'em besides, and we once put all three in series to check and they matched up perfectly.

Just my two Pesos regarding tuners, I'm very happy with Peterson's Strobostomp. I realize this is a little expensive but believe me, it's worth EVERY dime! I had used both Seiko and Boss tuners and although they worked well, the difference in the guitars sound when tuned with the Peterson is amazing.
Other advantages are easy and quick intonation plus the tempered tunings. This is without a doubt, the BEST purchase I've made outside of guitar or an amp.

OK..so I've had my lp for a week now...I love this guitar! I did break down last weekend and put new pots and caps in...major improvement in fine adjustments to both tone and volume.....even though the caps are just Radio Shack brand poly film..and probably no better than the stock ceramic caps. The action is fine right out of the box for me..though I'm used to my Ovation so it may seem a bit high to some. It distorts so easy that I've taken my DS-1 out and just run it dry on the dirty channel of my Peavy Rage with just a minimum of preamping. I can set it so I get a nice clean sound with a medium attack, but nice and dirty with a heavier attack. It'll take me a while to find my tone having so little experience with electrics (about 6 months with a Westbury SG copy back in '89)...right now I like about a 5-6 on my tone controls. The base, mid and treble on my amp so far haven't moved from 12 o'clock, but I'll start experimenting with them soon. Overall..I am VERY happy with the quality of this quitar! On a different note....I have found that the needle on my Korg tuner is much steadier if I use the 12th fret harmonic to tune as opposed to the open string..so I tune the open string to get close and make my fine adjustments using the harmonic. Is this a common way to tune?

It's common enough. The harmonic, being at the exact center of the string's speaking length, will be in tune when the string is in tune. When tuning by ear, it makes the job easier, as the 12th fret harmonic on, say, the 6th string should be one octave higher than the 7th fret harmonic on the 5th string. This trick won't work between the g and b strings, but will for the other five pairings.
