I’ve managed to get a few things done. First, I fixed the small room I use for practice into a “friendlier” guitar space. I think it came out well, considering this used to be a workshop. Although small, I have enough space to play and work on guitars too. It still has a ways to go but you can see pictures of it in the photo album link above.
My Sheraton project concluded very nicely. The stock plastic nut was changed for a brass, hand made piece. The fretboard was treated with boiled linseed oil, in pretty large quantities. It’s wonderful to play now and almost looks like ebony. I installed a set of Seymour Duncan Phat Cats (P90s in humbucker size) and all the electronics were changed out for an RS Guitarworks, premium historic rewiring kit. The guitar is a joy to play and sounds fantastic, although I still can’t play worth a hill of beans!
I bought some gear too! You can see a new Fender Lite Ash Telecaster hanging on the wall. This is a really nice Telecaster for a good price. Made in Korea and Seymour Duncan pups are stock. It has a wonderful sound but is difficult to play. It makes you work for the tone and will amplify ANY mistake made on the neck. Some people like ‘em and some don’t but mine is marvelous! It’s light too!
Here’s an expensive MUST HAVE for you all. I picked up a Peterson Strobostomp tuner and am VERY impressed with it. Although it seems tremendously complicated at first, it’s really very easy to use and tunes your guitar PERFECTLY. The difference between using this and a regular tuner is enormous. It’s built for stage use, is true bypass and rugged as a tank. Although I don’t use many of its multiple features, I especially like the tempered settings. Try one at your closest music store and you’ll be hooked.
Last but not least, I got a used rhythm box. It’s a discontinued Zoom that I got for peanuts but it’s one of the best buys I’ve made. It has a gazillion drum tracks and bass lines that you can jam along to. It was a real eye opener trying to play along at first but I got the hang of it and now even practicing scales is fun if you follow the beat!
