Hi everyone After 10 years of having only one strat (Sunn Mustang,Fender authorized) and not caring too much about playing guitar, I've come back to guitarplay. I've got a bit tired of its looks and was looking for some more ballsy guitar: enter the epiphone vintage G-400. I love the looks of the guitar, and remember it as one of the models I wanted when I was 16 (and had no money). Is it a good guitar? What are its pro's and cons? As a second choice: is the Custom G-400 (antique ivory with gold hardware) a good alternative for 80 euro's(90 dollar) more, because it also looks too cool. Some expert advice? greets

i currently own the epi g 400 vintage and i absolutely love it. its worn cherry. ive owned 2 gibson sgs and a gibson invader, and believe it or not the epi g 400 vintage is the best guitar ive ever owned.its very light and it is has a very surprisingly solid feel to it. the one piece set neck is small and very fast w/ a great deal of sustain. the pups are very responsive, they are the 57m and hot b humbucker. it sounds great clean and w/ gain or distortion. it is great for rhythym as well as lead work. an all around work horse. ive had no problems w/ the switch or caps.its an all solid mahogany body and neck and comes w/ grover tuners and is authorized by gibson, based on the 1962 sg. this is the best money ive ever spent, $400 u.s. w/ a hard shell case. i got a great deal. but im not sure they currently make the vintage anymore(ask smooth). but i almost bought the g400 custom, but 3 pups seem a little guady to me. the g 400 is the same as the vintage just w/out the worn look and has a glossy finish. this guitar is got all if not more than all the balls youll ever need in a guitar. i havent changed a thing on mine except i strobed it for 10s. it came w/ 9s, i havent set the action, it came as i like it. i dont like my action low. i like it a little high, and thats the way it came.im probably the only exclusive sg player on the forum. it is the one on my avatar pic, the one you see here. if you decide to get it you will not be dissapointed.

Thanks, I was hoping/expecting something like that. ;D I'll probably buy it from a foreign musicstore's webshop, hope that's not too bad of an idea. It's 170€ (+-200$) cheaper than in a local shop and I'm trusting on the shop's reputation that they send me a flawless one. Not sure if they sell it with a hardshell case though, would even be a better deal. Let's hope the stock doesn't dry up and they've stopped making it. Because I've maybe got some other gear to buy first.
