mmm bought her a month ago....havent left the house since....im a thin neck guy (my #1 before this was an epi classic birdseye maple in a cherry sunburst/w emgs 81 and 85) this goldtop has the biggest neck ive ever seen on a guitar but you know what, its a helluva lot more comfortable than the thin neck and the speed of my playing has not dropped...anyways unplugged this guitar is very loud and very very rich sounding.. you can feel the note vibrate through the neck and body and it sustains for ever...plug it into a tsl half stack and its a case of sticky pants....this guitar has the les paul tone.....bridge burstbucker gives nice growls but still cleans up to deliver nice cleans. the neck pickup sings and roll the tone off and hey presto woman tone as it should be...the feel of the instrument just says quality and that is reflected by the sounds it produces....when i went looking for a les paul i had either a classic or standard with a 60's neck in mind having played most of the product range i have to say imho the historics/.custom shop stuff completely outplayed the factory produced stuff and amongst the historic collection the r7 provided the best value for money...i tried r8's and r9's but just couldnt justify the price difference for a bit of flame maple and who knows 20 years down the line when the gold finsih is all checked and missing in places i may find i have a nice bit of flame under that gold paint anyway!!!!
at last i finally own a gibson les paul...pics to follow!!

I'm looking forward to those pics! Is it the early 50's rounded neck profile? Never tried it but would love to.

yeah its a round neck profile but bigger than say the neck on a standard with 50's neck profile or even an r8 or r9....biggest neck ive ever played..put it that way...definately worth trying one of these out if your thinking about getting a gibbo...put it this way a new standard is 1400 gbp (rrp) an r7 is 1780-2650 gbp, a second hand r7 can be got for 1500 gbp or imported from the usa for even less (if you can wait)....(1100-1200 gbp all in).......epis are 300-400 quid each, just think for 3 or 4 epis you could have a re-issue! and ill bet some of you guys have like ten epis or something...if i were buying the les paul again id import or go second hand just to save even more money but if i was stuck and had to pay 2650 id pay it!!! thats how good the guitar is....pics at weekend when i get broadband installed at home..will include some pics of me wee epi (promised u guys pics about a year or so ago....)a gibson ripper bass and of course the r7 all hanging out with mr marshall tsl half stack and a few roger mayer boxes!!

I must lay my hands on one of those. The problem is that there are no good music stores nearby. You have to drive for like 3-4 hours to get to the decent ones. However I am saving for a TSL100 (which I saw you have) with a 1960AV cab right now, so it will take quite some time.

paid £650 for the tsl head new...second hand these drop to 400-450 id go second hand and keep saving those pounds...just be carefull of the footswitch that comes with it....there are 2 types one with a thin lead and one with a thick good quality lead the thin lead footswitch will not last the distance....but saying that, very versatile amp with great cleans and great dirty tones...

I am watching a used head and 1922 cab (which I can replace later on) right now that I can afford. It seem to be in great shape, but I will inspect it throughly before I buy. I know that the footswitch is poor quality, but how can I get the better quality one? Is there a specific production year or so? It's so neat with three channels, but they must be footswitchable.
