Hi everyone, just picked this up today and thought I would say a few things about it.
First I was looking for (read that : ENDLESSLY SEARCHING FOR!) a distortion pedal that has miles of gain and sustain and a cranking "80's metal" sound to it. Yes, I admit it, I'm a metal head stuck in the 80's!!! Anyway, I have tried the Boss Metal Zone, Digitech's Death Metal, Grunge, Metal Master, anything with the word metal in it!! The Boss pedal came the closest and I always seemed to want "just a little more!" Even my amps seem to reflect my endless search. My latest 2 purchases, while looking very good on paper, just didn't cut it. My Line 6 Spider II 112 and my Marshall MG30DFX just didn't have that high gain. Just a lot of mush in the treble region. Heck, the Marshall just can't have the treble knob turned past 2 or "YEOWWW" , screech that hurts the ears!!! My Line 6 sounds better, but sounds like MUD when the gain is turned up, some sounds are okay (has a great clean sound with the effects) but.......
Fast Forward to Today!!! I picked up this uber Metal pedal from Line 6 after seeing the demos on their website and checking it out at the local Guitar Center. All I can say is WOWWWWWW!!!!! I have found my "Holy Grail". Check out the web site for the sound bytes and demos. Pretty nice! I will not bore you with a list of features, it has all the standard EQ settings BUT it has a 3 way switch for 3 different Distortions AND a built in 2 stage switchable noise gate that really works. This is what I have found:
Metal setting - nice, but a little too low compared to the other two, you have to turn up the level a bit to match the other 2 settings. Sustain is okay and sound is similar to the Boss Metal Zone.
Pulverize setting - NICE!!! Endless gain and sustain.
Insane setting - Even NICER!!! Same endless sustain and gain.
The EQ settings are useable too. The bass is not too muddy, the mid and scoop work well, gets that scooped sound without screeching, and the treble, ahh, finally a treble setting that does not go through your ear like an icepick, like the Digitech pedals. It works, adds high end without the "scratchy screeching sounds" that go along with the other pedals.
Well, there it is, I hope this explains the euphoria I am experiencing right now!!!! My new setup is:
Guitar-->uber Metal-->Line 6 amp (with floor channel switch)
2 of the channels on the Line 6 are set as clean, same EQ just different mod settings (chorus and flange) so I can simulate switching between a chorus and flanger pedal and my other 2 channels are different distortion settings.
Thanks for letting me rant about my new toy. Happy New Year everyone!!!
