I'm not implying that this guitar is a second, but on the back of the headstock, where does Epiphone put the "2nd" mark? I'm just curious as to why there just happens to be a "big honkin' sticker" with absolutely nothing on it, right under the serial number. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3736927107

I do actually believe the Epi does not apply "2nd marks" on their guitars... I´ve never come across a blemished Epi that was marked as a "2nd". I guess those guitars go to retailers who actually sell them for a special price and hopefully tell the customers that this particular guitar is a "2nd". By the way: WELCOME ABOARD, EpiJunkie!

I would believe Smooth would be the best to answer this question.

Indeed we stamp the rear of the headstock right above the serial number with either a "2ND" for cosmetic defects or "USED" which is a scrap that has some type of playability issue. 2ND's carry full warranties same as any other non blem.

I'd not worry to much about the "used" stamp. I actually have one Epi Standard Limited Edition Tobacco Burst with the same designation. It's a screamer and better than 3 other Epi LPs with no such mark. The bottom line is this.. it's an Epi and it'll have value 100+ years from now if ever... if it were a Gibby I'd counsel you otherwise.. it's a minor deal and nobody but you will know this. If you dig it and it fits your style do it. Just pay BOTTOM dollar.. ie.. at least $100 below sticker if new.. $200 or more below sticker if perfect used conditon. They're worth $200-$280 max no matter what the top is made of.

My 2002 LP Std+ is a 2nd from MF. They advertised it as a "Blem" with cosmetic imperfections. It came stamped "2nd" just above the Serial #. I paid only $349 for it in October of that year. It plays perfectly, and the only flaw I`ve found is a tiny (pinpoint size) bubble in the finish on the back of the body.

Somehow I would have thought the opposite....."2nd" would be the one with playability issues and "used" just something returned as old, unsold stock or store displays. I was watching a few on eBay and sent both sellers a message and I guess they are also confused by the stampings as they both think the "used" stamping is the better of the two.
