Hey Heliman, Smooth already posted this in the other thread, but indeed... it looks like an ordinary and regular Epiphone Standard, not like an Elitist. Anyway, I decided to create a board to discuss fishy offers we come across on Ebay. There are lots of fraudulent guys around, but sometimes they are so dumb, it makes me laugh very often. On the other hand there are maybe unexperienced buyers who actually lose their money in those auctions. Again: Only buy from Ebay if you have a certain knowledge. Very often you only need to look at the pictures and read the descriptions and you know that the offer is made with fraudulent intentions.

I think you done good by having an Ebay "Red Flag" section. Yea, some sellers are dumb, but some buyers are pretty clueless, as well. For example, many people do not know that you can not even go inside the Gibson guitar facility in Nashville, much less "hand-pick" a guitar from there. The only shop run by Gibson is at the Gibson Bluegrass Showcase in Nashville where they make Banjos, Dobros, and Mandolins. Having been there several times, I can assure you that they do not have several Elitists to "hand-pick" through, to begin with! There prices are sky-high pretty much out of necessity so as not to compete with their retailers. Respectfully yours, Heliman

H-man, thanks for the heads up on the Ebay potential rip off. I really like it here. You?

I guess someone should report this auction to safeharbor yeah, good to let people know - but if nothing else, his bid isn't that high for a new standard plus with case, as long as he knows what he is buying and isn't expecting an elitist.

Did the same thing here some months ago, and in fact the buyer was very glad I contacted him, I also wrote three emails to Ebay itself but they did not feel concerned and it didn´t bother them. I contacted all other bidders in this auction where a Les Paul copy was sold as a real Gibson Les Paul Standard. I emailed the seller and asked him about the bolt-on neck, but he insisted on selling a real Gibson. I said I would bid on his guitar, and if I win I would come to Berlin and get my Gibson in person and pay cash for it. ;D I gave him advice to already look for two or three beefy and muscled guys, hehe! When I´d come over and find out he wants to cheat me I´d beat the s*** out of him. Ironically the photograph showed a well made copy of a black Custom, but the brand name on the headstock was retouched away. I guess it must have been an older Kasuga or Maya... these were very popular here in Germany in the early 80´s...
