Welp, since I was in here last ( May 2005 ) I have done a few things to my classic. First thing I did was replace the plain cream pickguard for a pearloid one (allparts) Replaced the pickups for Gibson's out of an older SG covers removed, put a Gibson TP6 tailpiece on in place of the white metal stop, replaced the bridge with a Gotoh bridge Gonna leave pots alone, but still have to put in a Switchcraft switch, and it's done. All these mods made a good guitar even better! Peace.

I highly recommend getting an RS Premium Wiring Kit from www.rsguitarworks.comI put one of their kits in my Gibson R7 and it made a huge difference, I can just imagine what it would do for an Epi.

Yeah, you know, it's something to think about down the road...always room for improvement, I also thought about switching out the nut too. Have you ever heard of "mammoth tusk"? There was some guy on ebay who claimed to have it, you gotta cut it yerself, but I was wondering about that. My techy says because it's partially petrified, it imparts better resonance, he says the ebay thing might be questionable tho, so I was wondering if theres anywhere else might have this? I'm thinkin' a nut swap would be the last major thing I do for a while after the switch is installed. Like I said, it was bitchin' out-of-box, but all these things I've done so far, well, it's leaps and bounds better than stock, I had no idea that pickups would make that much of a difference, but they do! Anyway, pip-pip, tally-ho, cheerio, and all that rot! No, I'm not Brit. Peace.

You have an R7 too? Let's see a family photo of your goldtops! BTW, I was about to order an RS premium historic kit for my epi 56. But the shipping to sweden cost more than the kit itself. That's weird, it can't weigh that much.

Ok! You must be one happy man when it arrives! How do you like the early 50 neck? Did you think it took long to adjust? I played one R8 long ago, and don't really remember the neck size. Do you think it's worth getting a historic over a USA model if you can take the neck? I'm having a bit of a dilemma (even though I'm not even close to affording one, but you know how it is...).

I love the big baseball bat neck! Feels great in my hand.
Getting the R6 (and R7) was a no brainer. There was only $60 difference between an LP Standard and the Custom Shop Historic.

Oh yeah! Well, I seem to like fatter necks the more I play, so who knows? 60$'s? Might I ask were you got such a good price?
