RE-wired my lp last night. I didn't experiment with it much beyond making sure everything still worked...been on a fingerpicking jones lately so the Ovation recieved most of my attention last night. I'll be able to elaborate more on the results after I play it for a bit tonight. I take it the pups now work indepedant of each other?

They do.
I didn't notice any loss of tone or clarity as I was told on the other board...but again I only checked it out for about 5 minutes before switching guitars....in part because my youngest son was being a bit clumsy with the Ovation...and also I've gotten back into fingerpicking for the past month or so, which is something I've gotten almost completely away from with the rare exception of a quick run through Stairway to Heaven. (Funny...I used to love playing that song....not it's almost akin to a chore I try to avoid)

I played around with it for a while last night. Not sure how I feel about it yet. The effect on tone seems very subtle at best. Interestingly though, with the switch not in the middle, it seems that my bridge pup may have lost a bit of bite on the G, B, and E strings, (perhaps there was something to the response I got on the other board?) while my neck has gained a bit on those strings. There is also a strange effect that happens with both pups on, treble volume full on, and bringing my neck pup either up or down to 8. I can't really describe it yet...I'll try to nail it down tonight.
Please keep in mind that I only played with it an hour or so....and through headphones, so this may not be an entirely accurate assessment of the results. My early thoughts are that this mod may be more effective with Linear Tapered volume pots as opposed to the Audio Tapers I currently have. I'll have to play with it for a couple more days before I know whether I'm happy with it or not.

Try it without headphones and see what you hear. The good thing about this is that it is cheap to do this and easily put back to stock.

I'm putting it back to stock on the vol pots. My treble pup definitely lost some oomph..and there's still a strange distortion effect when I adjust my neck pot down when both pups are on.

Chet, You've done this mod and didn't notice either of these?

Yes, I have done this mod, and if I did notice I adjusted pickup height's to compensate.

Live and Learn. I switched it back to stock and it definitely sounds better.....so IMHO...independent volume control gains you nothing..and you do lose some tone.
