Lately I have been swapping pickups in my guitars to try to get different sounds. I have also noticed that I have come up with quite a collection of spare pickups that I have aquired over the years --> Duncans, Dimarzios, EMG's, etc. Anyway, I'm tired of changing all the time, but I also feel guilty that I have some great spares lying around begging to be used. Sooooo, I guess the only thing to do is either sell some of the spares OR buy more guitars to put them in. What do you all think? ;D ;D ;D ;D

I´d say buy some more guitars in order to give homes to the homeless...

OR, option three: give them away to dedicated forum members!

ExCaptain, that sounds like a great excuse to get past the Mrs. "Honey, I have too many pickups, and no place to put them." I`ll bet she`ll be more than happy to suggest a place for them. LOL! I kind of like Jeje`s reply, as long as you don`t send them ALL to Jeje. Jim

Maybe you could list all the pickups you have and we could have an essay contest answering the question: "Why would you be the best adopted parent for this pickup?"

Hi all! Sorry for the delay in posting a reply. To answer the questions regarding the guitars I have and what p/u's are in them (and also lying around.) Well here I'll try to explain it all now: (as of today!!!)
Gibson Les Paul Special (mod'ed for hum's) --> Duncans- JB in bridge and Jazz in the neck (both zebra color)
Epi Les Paul Std (Cherry Sunburst) --> Dimarzios- Sup. Distrtion in bridge and PAF in neck (both all cream color)
Epi Les Paul Standard (Wine Quilt top) --> Duncans- Distortion in bridge and Jazz in neck (both black)
Epi G400 (Wine Red) --> EMGs- 81 in bridge and 85 in neck (black-this combo kicks a$# in it!)
Epi Les Paul Junior (black) --> Duncan Detonator in bridge (black)
Fender MIM Strat (Pelham blue) --> Replaced bridge p/u with Duncan Hot Rails
Fender Strat (black) --> Replaced pickguard with single Hum style and put in a GFS Classic Distortion (black) Got it from eBay ( sounds great especially with a 1 Meg pot as a volume control!!)
All these mod's are for the type of stuff I play, which is mostly Metal/Hard Rock.
EXTRA PICKUPS lying around:
1) Dimarzio Sup. Distortion (zebra color) 2) GFS Classic PAF (eBay again! - zebra color) 3) EMG 81 (black) 4) EMG SA (black -strat p/u) 5) Gibson PAF w/ nickle cover (from my old '79 SG I don't have anymore) 6) Dimarzio PAF (cream color) 7) 2 sets of Epi Chrome covered Hum's from 2 of my Epi's Note: A lot of these pickups I have come to own over the many years I have been playing guitar ( about 25 yrs, ex..all of the Dimarzios I have are all at least 20 yrs old and still sound great!)
I know this is a large post, but like they say: "You Asked For It!!!" HaHaHaHa
Take care all!!!!
John
P.S.: Most of these guitars are pictured in the gallery here, only some of the pickups are already different from when that picture was taken!!!! (kind of like the reason for this post in the first place!!!!)

To my understanding, no "real" Gibson PAFs were made after 1960...

You're right, my mistake. I think I meant to say "PAF type" It is what was stock in Gibson SG's back in 1979!

I'd be more than happy to relieve you of both those DiMarzio's. Name your price, let's talk. My people will meet with your people, and we'll do lunch, or something to that effect. Seriously, if you wanna part with 'em lemme know.
