Guys;
I've been thinking about this one for a long time. Is the Gibby Studio worth it? Is it better than my Epi Standard + or is it just the name on the headstock?
I imagine some of you own a Studio, can you let me know what you think about it?
Thanks Dan

I own both an Epi LP Standard and a Gibson LP Studio. The Gibson feels different, it is much heavier and the back of the neck seems a little thinner. The pickups are of course much better. I can't stand the tuners so they are the first thing to go. The bridge and stopbar are of course changed to TonePros. Straplocks are also installed.
A new Gibson LP Studio can be bought for about $1,000.00-$1,100.00 and used ones for around $750.00-$800.00.

Thanks Feathers;
As far as "playabilty", do you have a preference either way? Is the sound very much different between them? Let's put it this way... I you could only keep one of these, which one would it be?

There should not be a sound difference between Studio and Standard when they´re equipped with the same pickups. A Studio is a Standard without binding, but with set neck and arched top. Just a few less cosmetics. Some Studios come with dot inlays instead of trapezoid ones also. But there is a difference between an Epi LP Standard and a Gibby LP Studio. The Gibby has the amazing name on it... And the stock pickups should be really better.

I like the feel of the Gibby's neck a little more than the Epi, though the binding is always a plus (if you want really great quality on a LP style guitar, look into the old Ibanez copies from the 70's, WOW.). The Gibson neck's a bit fatter and the whole deal has some weight to it, but I'd take it any day over the Epi... it's just got that "right" feel to it (and it sounds like heaven). Ty

It seems everyone would take the Gibby Studio over the Epi Standard. Some other folks have also said the the Studio itself can't even hold a candle to the Gibby Standard. That seems kind of wierd to me since I always thought they were the same except for binding. But I have no experience with Gibbys

If I ever get a Gibson Les Paul, it will probably be a Studio.
I've played a few....and I like the feel of my Epi better. Its still a great guitar though.

Not to change the subject or anything, but.......
Give the Gibson LP Faded Double Cut with P-90's a look at. I have one and love it!

About ten years ago I had loan of my friends white Gibson LP Studio. He was a bit spoiled and it was his first guitar, and he never learned to play. He let me use it for years until he got ready to sell it. ( I should have bought it) It was a nice example of the Gibson Les Paul Studio. I was alot less fat back then and liked the fact that it was less heavy than most Les Pauls. It had good tone and I had it set up the way I liked it so it played well. I would rather have it than most Epi standards I have played, but I would not trade my quilt top for it.

And there were special runs of Gibson LP Studios that were slightly thinner in order to save weight. A pal of mine has one and it sounds amazing. He changed the stock pickups for Gibson Dirty Fingers.
