We have an all girl band as subtenants in our rehearsal room now. One of the chicks plays an Epiphone SG Bully... of course I had to check it out... Well, it seems to be absolutely similar to an SG Special, only the neck is different. It has a semi matte finish on the back and a different headstock displaying the logo of the discontinued Extreme series. Hey, this inexpensive thing plays nice and has an amazing sound for a guitar with a plywood body. The neck is quite thick, never saw a neck profile like this on an SG before. The setup needs some maintenance, but I promised the girl to straighten things out. But all in all one of the best beginner´s guitars I laid my hands on. Nice!

thats the one ive got. it has a laminated maple top also.ilike the head stock. it has open coil pups. i cant get it to feed back at all. but i like the pups any way. mine is gloss black w a clear maple neck. it plays very well. it is my back up guitar so to speak. i play it some times at the first of a gig. the thing never goes out of tune. very dependable axe. $140 from a pawn shop. very solid, good tone believe it or not.

I believe it! Her´s is winered with a matte clear maple neck. Yes, the pickups, I played it at an insane volume level to check if the pickups are microphonic, but nope... no squealing feedback. The girls just started making music with a complete band. When I remember the crappy guitar I had back in the day I wish I had such a Bully. This is by far more than a beginners guitar. Like you pointed it out: even a nice and inexpensive backup guitar for a gigging musician. Very reliable.

I bet it would get a nice reaction from a hard rock audience too

Well, this girl hardly plays her Bully, she is just singing in this band and the guitar stands in our rehearsal room with sad eyes... The other chick plays a Strat copy, so I thought I might purchase this lovely but cheap SG from her... what do you think guys? The guitar is in good condition, just recently I restringed it, lol, I could not stand the fact that the strings were that dead like they were. I guess the chick completely lost interest in guitar playing, so at least I grab up that Bully from time to time... and the girl is in need for money! Hmmm!
