.... ;D....this is probably old stuff to most of you.............
....changing strings.....doesn't seem like a big deal.....we do it all the time.....right.............
....except I feel like I'm back in boy scouts learning my knots all over again.....no ball ends.......my teacher warned me that one time he did it and everything came unravelled as he was about to tune up.........he told to make sure the second loop was on the backside of the bridge.......and that if all else failed I could bring the guitar in and he'd do it when he wasn't busy.......he also does amp tube-bias and intonations........that's a full service music teacher........his point is that you have to know all of this stuff in order to play well...............
....paid particular close attention how the strings were done as I took them off.....all of them......lemon-oiled/cleaned the fret board......gave the entire guitar as a good wipe down with a soft cloth......then proceeded to re-install the strings................
....getting that second loop on the back of the bridge was a pain....so I decided to put a third loop in and found that it settled in naturally behind the bridge........figured it couldn't be too bad for the next month or so until I change the strings again.......the excess string was tied under the next two knots.....then trimmed......the #6 string was looped through between the #4 & #5 strings back towards #5 and trimmed...............the alternate here is to just trim the excess off at the knot......short enough so it doesn't touch the top and resonate................
.....to keep the knot from unravelling I used my capo to keep the tension on the lower string so I could address the tuner winding.......the previous string went in/out the tuner hole twice...wrapped in opposite directions so that the final wrap comes over the top/front......wound the tuner until most of the slack comes out and then took the capo off......this didn't work with #6 which only got a single wrap.........my teacher puts his string through the tuner hole....wraps around the string once...granny knot-style.....then back in the tuner hole......the knot is pulled into the hole and holds the string.....his teacher taught him to do it this way......I may have to try that next time...........
.....my teacher said both ends of the strings looked like a work of art.........keeping the new stings in tune is a real pain.....that nylon stretches is an understatement..........this weekend I may undo the tuner wrappings to shorten the strings.....I've used up most of the free space on the tuners over the past week tightening the strings..............
