nice....there was a mars music going out of business last year and i got to play a d-28...it was so sweet...i got to a/b it with a gibby rosewood j45, and a taylor 910 cutaway, the best tone actually came out of the taylor right there in the store, but i think it had brand new strings on it too so not a real fair comparison. the martin felt the best to me. the gibby sounded kind of muddy compared to the other two. not as clear and crisp, might have been the strings. great snag on the martin...thats one to never let get away.

I just put on new strings today and fell in love with it all over again. This one really sounds best with new strings because she is very warm sounding and probably a little too dark. But I have a feeling she will develop and become a little more open, you know? Really sweet the way she is, anyway. Concerning Gibson acoustics, well I'm more interested in the Jumbos and Super Jumbos, you know SJ-200 or something, Spruce/Maple, that bright yet powerful sound with lots of punch in the bass range. When it comes to Dreadnoughts I'm more into the warm sound of a good Martin. But you cant generalize, of course...

.........since posting the above in April 2006....earlier this month I bought a used Takamine G-116 nylon classical...plain jane simple....but my teacher said that the tone was good enough........I'm kinda starting over again in my weekly music lessons.........eating Knox gelatin and growing my right hand fingernails.............
..........still strum the other two at church on Sundays................

I think you'll find classical playing to be very interesting. I learned for a year or so and quit because I didn't have the time for a while and never took it up again. I thoroughly enjoyed these lessons, I had a very nice teacher. I'm just too busy learning all the other stuff right now and I started playing harp kind of seriously and now I started out on saxophone. that's enough for now... About my D-28: Some time in July I picked up my Martin and - from one day to the other - it felt like a completely new guitar. Much more open, lots of highs, soooo great. I fell in love with it all over again. It's the best acoustic I ever played, absolutely.

For recording a nylon part I got an Ibanez GA5TCE acoustic/electric nylon-string shallow cutaway that's got a much narrower neck than a traditional nylon-string guitar for those of us who want that nylon-string sound without the discipline or practice.

...right now the first part of the book is a review....told my teacher that it's probably a good time to correct any bad habits............
...thought all of this would be pretty much the same...but according to the book....classical guitars are a different breed apart from other guitars....the untaperred neck and the fingernails are two of the most obvious.....guess it will dovetail at some point down the road with the other guitars.....just the note reading has got to help..........
...no idea where this will end up.....it's all good fun.....pickin' and strummin'...........

I have an Ovation 1867 Legend A/E. (shallow body) Had it for nearly 10 years now. LOVE this guitar. A friend recently accidentally dropped it on the floor and knocked a chunk off the headstock. I was real bummed, but this too will pass. Heck it didn't even knock it out of tune! ;-) BB in SC
