Hi Everyone, I'm Tom 42 yrs old. I just bought a Epi LP Std. Plus Elitist. Beautiful Guitar. I'm dying to learn to play. All my son's Play Guitars & Bass. Should I take lessons like the kids started or learn by book (if there are any good ones out there)? Any suggestions. I feel like an old dog try to lean a new trick. I'm so over whelmed.

tjpatt,.....
Greetings and welcome,...!!
I hear ya,
I've been learning/playing for the past 3 months,
(ahem),...I'm a newbie too,.....*S*
Ya came to the right place though, this forum has a lot of great members with years of experience.
You'll get the answers you need here.
Speaking for myself, I am teaching myself and learning as much as I can. I feel as if I have made good progress, but one day I will take lessons from a professional.
And speaking of an ol' dog learning new tricks, I got one word to say:
"WOOF"
LMAO

Well Zep, Thant doesn't sound like a very encouraging welcome. "missed my chance decades ago" Do you? or anyone else for that matter? anyone please chime in if you agree.

Hmmm... don´t know what Zep means with "missed something decades ago..." It´s never too late to start with playing the guitar! Welcome aboard! I suggest maybe look for a pal that plays guitar and also a book for beginners, the pal might show you something and base this lessons maybe on that book... as soon as you have mastered the first obstacles you might look for a good teacher to help you further on... having mastered the next stage you should be able to improve yourself as an autodidact, that´s the way I did it.

Steelpriest,... yeah, ....what is an "autodidact",...? I was about to say,...."Ghesundheight" (thought ya sneezed) WickedWishes I looked up my dictionary and found autodidact is the same word and meaning like in german language, but actually it is of latin origin. An autodidact is someone who tought things to himself by perception and intuition, ... a self educated person. Hehe, hope that helps. German is an odd language, believe me. ;D

Steelpriest,....
Again, my thanks go out to you.
I pride myself on my belief that I should learn something new, each and every day, and today is no exception.
I sincerely appreciate your reply here, and I take honor in the view of being an "autodidact",.......*VBS* As I have stated on this forum that I am teaching myself to play guitar. (with the help and assistance of the wonderful members of this forum)
Probably best said by John Cougar Mellencamp,..."fergit all 'bout that macho s**t,... learn to play guitar"
BTW,...you think German is an odd, difficult language,......try learning, speaking and becoming fluent in "red-neck"
LMAO
Thanks Steelpriest,......^5
