some beatles stuff is good to learn because its mainly pretty easy an no solos, thats the probly with ozzy, le zep and deep purple stuff, the solos are to hard for beginners but like i said The Beatles, actually the first entire song i learned how to play was "8 days a week" "Eight Days . . ." was mine too. I remember the break-through I experienced when I figured how barre the Bm (up until then it was all open chords!). Yeah, there are a bunch of Beatles songs that are good for the reasons that you mentioned. I don't know, but I still have fun with "Nowhere Man" and "Being for . . . Mr Kite." They're both very melodic and fairly easy.

Hi everybody! This is my first post here, but I've been reading alot of posts around here. I'm not a "newbie" guitar player, but I thought I needed to post something here. The first real song i learned was stairway to heaven. I had been playing guitar for a while but not real songs. It is a good song for practicing, cause it is nice fingerpicking and some usefull chords in it. When you have been playing for a while and get pretty fast I would recommend the riffs and solo on Waiting for an alibi with thin lizzy. Its fun and isn't as hard as it sounds.
