Lets hear it...do you prefer to play while sitting or standing? If while sitting, do you rest the guitar on opposite leg (opposite your dominant arm) or same side leg?
Myself, I prefer sitting, especially when playing the boat anchor LP. I began using the right leg to rest the guitar but when I started taking classical lessons (only a few months before I stopped lessons) I was taught to use the opposite leg with a raised foot rest. I found I much prefer that way regardless of type of guitar I'm playing.

I have to say I prefer standing, because it´s the usual way you play live on stage. Sitting gives the guitar a different position, and depending on what you play makes it easier or more difficult. So I make sure I can play everything I have to play standing. I sit down occasionally when recording leads, but most of the time I play standing. When I sit down I usually use my left leg to place the guitar on.

I prefer to sit, playing only for recording, but it lends itself better to certain size/shaped guitars (Telecaster, DOT, Casino, Rickenbacker) and not as well to others (Stratocaster, Les Paul, PRS).

I sit more than I stand cuz I'm doing a lot of learning. I rest the guitar on my left leg in the classical position. It puts the guitar closer to where it would be if you were standing and provides easier access to the upper register. When I stand, it's just noodlin' or playing something I already know to a backing track.

I agree with USAFdude, I usually sit with the guitar on my left leg (I play right handed.) I sometimes rest it on my right leg but after a little while I find that I get muscle cramps in my right shoulder because my arm is back farther with the guitar closer. I then move it back to my left leg, or slung down between my legs. This brings my arm out and stops the cramps.

Well, even while sitting I use an additional strap. But guess what... A flying V is the most comfortable guitar to play while sitting, believe it or not. I have a certain technique, maybe I should post a picture... Steele.

I always stand up. Of course you might have to rest after an hour, but then I just play some soft ear friendly stuff. I think it feels weird to sit with a lp, and it might be good to be used to stand while playing.

I like either way, but when I sit down, I adjust the strap on the guitar so that when I stand up, it hangs the same distance from my chin, thus no difference at all to deal with. I like the 335 shape best for sitting, and use my left leg for the same reasons excaptain stated.

I play right handed mostly standing. When I do sit I remove the strap and rest the guitar on my right leg.

The only downside with standing is after maybe 30 years of LP playing, people can get shoulder problems. I don't want that, but can't help standing.

I don't gig so sitting is the way to go. I am very lazy though, so I sit back with my feet up and rest my guitar on my belly( mine is large so that may not work for most of you). When I do sit up I rest my guitar on my right let (I'm a lefty).
