Strings buzz when I let go of chord

When I try to change chords (generally with 3 string power chords), I get an annoying buzz from the frets under my fingers. I've tried hitting the strings softer (I'm playing an electric by the way) which helped a little, but I still get a buzz as I lift my fingers off the strings. Any suggestions of what I can do about this? The buzz is louder if I'm changing chords quickly, but it's still there if I lift my fingers directly from the chord. I don't take my fingers off the strings when I do either.

either your action is set too low, or you need new strings. Try putting on new strings first, and if that doesn't work, adjust your action a little higher.

Is it just on certain frets, or all around the neck?

All around the neck. The strings were just changed so I'll try raising the action.

If raising the action does not work, you will probly need to take it to a luthier or guitar tech and have them check out the guitar. It could be a number of things. The nut may need tweeking or replacing, the frets may need to be leveled and polished, the neck may need a collar adjustment, and so on. I am getting ready to have both my epis set up by a pro to match the feel and low action of my Gibson. I have both of them as low as they can go without fret buzz. So if you raise your action you will most likely get rid of the buzz, but if you want them lower go to a pro and get it set up and tweeked.

Thanks. I actually found out yesterday that a properly set up electric is supposed to buzz a little when played acoustically.

By the way, am I allowed to use this forum? I play an Ibanez.

Yeah, of course. We play everything we can get our hands on around here.

Since this is the technique forum, my $0.02 is to learn how to do a good palm mute combined with removing your fingers from the strings at least enough to make sure they aren't buzzin' for that reason. Takes a bit of practice, but it becomes second nature. ;D
If it's still buzzin', then it's the guitar.

P.S. Don't feel bad about playing Ibanez, I have two as well as my cherished Epi.
