Hey bass players, tell us what bass you play. I own 2 right now: The first bass I got is a 2003 Ibanez GSR100-A great little beginner bass. Next I just bought a Epiphone Allen Woody, its only 30" scale with a red wine finish, gold hardware and the tone you get is awsome. I briefly owned a 1999 Epiphone Les Paul Standard Bass, but after about 2 months I sold it. It was just too neck heavy for me, but the tone it gave could not be matched.

I used to play bass as my main instrument for a couple of years, to be precise from 1993 to 2000. I had lots of Ibanez Soundgear basses (4- and 6-strings) and I had a Fender Jazz Bass as well, but it was not the "real thing" at least for me, both, soundwise and concerning it´s playability. Then I changed over to a Warwick Corvette 4 string to end up soon with a collection of Ibanezes... Lots of people don´t consider Ibanez as real good over there in the USA, at least that´s what I often came across when talking to americans, I don´t like most of their guitars either, but when it comes to bass guitars Ibanez owns! I find it interesting that you chose a medium scale bass, what kind of music do you play? Greetings Steelpriest

I mostly play hard rock, but we do have a little bit of a blues sound on a few songs. I dig my Ibanez, it's solid and I love the way it plays. I went with the Allen Woody Epiphone which is a simi-hallow, just for that low rumbling tone you get from the mini-Humbuckers. It sounds pretty sweet. Oh course I have only been playing for 11 months, and I still have alot of room for improvment.

I have several to play around on: Jay Turser JTB-2B (Beatle Bass copy), ESP LTD B-104, Agile A/E Bass, and SX short scale bass.

I've got an SX J62 Jazz bass copy with Dimarzio 123's switched in. It sounds beautiful and was a great deal at $100 used. My original rig was a Jackson C20, which had a great neck but really crappy sounding pickups (plus I'm less a fan of the P pickup, though the PJ combo wasn't all that shabby).

My Ibanez is ok for a beginner bass. The allen woody makes it fun to play bass.

Hi CA How's your experience in terms of sound and playabilty with the Beatles bass? I'm been planning to get the Epi Viola Bass. And does anyone has experience with the Epi Thunderbird bass? Joe Joe

Joe
I like the shorter scale, and after lowering the action a touch playability is fantastic. As for the tone I went with a set of Fender Tape Wound/Nylon Strings to give a little of a Stand-Up Bass sound, without giving up the Hofnerish tone. Very lightweight so playing for long periods of time is no strain on the shoulder or back.

I also find the shorter scale much better to my liking. Joe

hey khan -
i had the pleasure of getting a tour at epihone when i was in nashville. i got to see the woody bass in person, but didn't get to play it.
how are you liking it? i know there's nothing like the growl of my semi-hollow viola. does yours sound good acoustic too?
