I only was able to play for an hour last friday night, and by myself too. I have had a battle royal with this monster strain of the flu going around here, and have had little energy for anything else. It made me feel better to play for a while, until the fever and the Nyquil made it not worth it anymore. Oh well. Sucks to be me.
Rock On! Zac

Here our complete band is ill, one after one, first it was me (I struggle along with a cold for almost 4 weeks now, it´s getting better, then again worse...), then our singer was ill and still is (a sore throat), a couple of days later our bassman (who quickly recovered) and now it is up to our drummer and he lies in bed with fever... ööööööörks! We haven´t jammed together with a complete line up for two weeks now... that sucks! But I am jamming by myself each day, no matter how ill I am... I drive over to our room and jam to my backing CD (that means I noodle the hell out of my guitars) or I work on songs of our own. Always accompanied by a huge pot of hot tea (occasionally with rum) and a load of handkerchiefs...

We are susposed to try out a drummer this Sunday, and now our bassist, is going out of town with his wife and new borne son. We just can't seem to get the time for everyone to be there to jam these days. Oh well I guess we just keep trying. Zac

ZZ Top is great, and if you want to hear some of their most smokin' stuff, go and get a copy of Fandango!. It's got a live set they did in New Orleans in 1975 that starts fast and hot and just gets better and faster. The B side is studio stuff and has a few hits you've heard a million times, but two or three tracks that are really DEEP cuts.

...actually...the practice went very well for this Sunday's services..........
...then we started practicing for easter...that went well except for two pieces........
...the first piece had tablature...the chorus & 1st three verses had two flats...the fourth chorus and final verse had three sharps...that resulted in some pretty unfamiliar chords...the director said we could capo and re-write the chords for the last section...the other guitarist and I just looked at each other and just said..."right"...............
...the second piece had not tablature at all...we decided just to sing along with the other choir members............
...certainly made things interesting.............

church music can be fruststrating at times....what i used to do in the day was follow the bass lines...with some kind of guitar fill in....chords...melodic run or something...or if it was out of the hymnal....id re-write it for me to follow, since you mostly get one rehersal before sundays....so good luck...im way happy for you , and maybe you could find your last 2 pices on line in a tabliture form or something.....maybe sean

...Easter's at the end of the month...so there's still time............
...I'll take with me to my music lesson...we're currently doing triad inversions....maybe I can learn how to write tablature....maybe how to convert tablature for a capo......
...for me the most frustrating thing about the sheet music is the seemingly non-standardization...at least to my untrained eyes...because we don't use any one book...we get copies from any number of sources...the parish has a license for all of these...the congregation for the most part uses one songbook...sometimes the pages that we're looking at aren't neat and pretty like those in that book.........
...I'm known as the "music thief"...I don't turn my sheets or my binder in at the end of practice...I take them home with me to work on...with the understanding that I will return them on Sunday...they can always tell which copies I've had because the tabs are all highlighted with a yellow maker...unfamiliar chords are diagramed in with a pencil...they don't care...and it helps me focused and I don't lose my place as easily...I've noticed that some of the soloists highlight their sheets too..........
...all of this is just minor stuff...all in all...it's been a lot of fun...I'd recommend it to anyone just starting out.........

Well, it came to my mind I´d move this thread to the "off topic" board in the absence of Samick SG...
