GOD!!! I can't believe it!!!! I have been web surfing all morning since I heard and from what I see, the guy jumped on stage and grabbed him and fired point blank into his head!!!! Oh My GOD!!!
I was never a big Pantera fan but I love "Cemetary Gates." God, he could play guitar!! I even saw him once when Pantera opened for Black Sabbath years ago in New York.
Even if you don't like metal music (which I do!) you have to respect the talent he had. God he could crank on that thing. R.I.P Darrell.

I am sure that as this unfolds, there will be all types of theories and suspected motives, but all I can think, is that the shooter must have been crazy. I listened to some ass on the fox news thing speculate about violence in metal music and even to go as far as blame the fact that Darrell was pro legalization of marajuana. IMHO that guy needs to be slapped. The shooter could not have been sane, period. The media will try to sensationalize it how ever they can, but the fact remains, people died at the hands of a whacko, and one or maybe more of them happened to be famous. My heart goes out to Darrell's family and lovedones as well as the families of the others killed by this senceless act. They will be missed.

There have been all kinds of rumors and stories started about this already. Although I was not a big fan of Darrell, Pantera, or Damage Plan that does not take away from the fact that a very talented guitarist was taken from us again.
Darrell, you are now with some of the greatest guitarists that ever lived. Rock On!!!!!

The story is the guy who got on stage blamed Dimebag Darrell for the breakup of Pantera, so he fired about 4 shots at him, and a few other band members. Then he fired a few shots into the audience, then finally police came and shot the guy dead.
R.I.P Dimebag Darrell

Here in Ft.Worth, Pantera was like our hometown heros. I remember going to see them at Joe's Garage way back in the day before they ever got big. Darrell and Vini were the most down to earth out of the band. They were just regular folk. After they went global, fame never seemed to change Darrell. I never knew any of them that well, but I never saw Darrell turn away a fan, even the star struck ones. I stopped buying Pantera CD's after Phil started screaming throughout most of the songs, but never stopped enjoying Dime's guitar work. I am sorry to say I didn't even know about Dammage Plan. I haven't been in that scene for quite a while now. But I plan to check out the guitar work he left behind. It really makes you stop and think about how sometimes life just aint fair.
What a waste Zac

I´m in deep grief. The world of music will never be the same to me. Insanity has reached new dimensions. What could be more crass than being murdered on stage while playing music and entertaining people? Imagine you go to a concert with your pals or your girlfriend to have a nice evening and suddenly your idols are killed before your eyes... and maybe yourself and your friends, too? It is disgusting. What is even more disgusting are certain inadequate comments and speculations in certain forums. In a german forum it read it was Dimebags own fault and he got what he deserved since he outspoke for the right of carrying weapons like Ted Nugent does... Oh boy, it made me freak out and post another nice comment in reply. This world has become a madhouse and I almost lost faith in everything.
