I played my first gig yesterday. It was my friend Markus' gig actually and he played with a few guys and then the two of us did a few songs with two acoustic guitars. We had a lot of fun and will do it again (i hope). Just needed to tell everybody!

Congratulations from me as well. I guess you were pretty excited. Or were you even nervous? In my opinion a gig is a very strange thing, totally different from playing at home or during rehearsals. When I gig I feel as if I am my own spectator. Like watching myself play and think: "Oh God, this guy is great!" and sometimes "Örks, what is this guy playing? Oh no!" Hehe. To me it feels like being switched on and thrown on stage, and from that point on everything runs automatically. It´s wierd in a way.

well, i think being on stage (and ive been on stage many times before, usually acting, in some of austria's biggest theatres by the way, or singing in a choir, again in some of austria's biggest concert venues), feels very private in a way. and this one was VERY cozy in that particular way.
i mean, hey, music is, and especially playing music with other people, a very intimate thing IMO, very personal. and this gig was basically just between Markus and me and had just a nice little club audience. So when I hit the stage, I tend to forget everything around and the stage itself is all that really matters for me, all that really gets through to me.
So this was really cosy, you know, just two acoustics (albeit amplified and pretty loud) and our voices, for songs like "salt of the earth" and "love in vain", oyu know, it jsut felt great.

First of all congrats on your first gig. I am glad to hear it went well.
For me being on stage can go one of two ways. I can either find my "zone" and really play well and enjoy it. Or I can't find my "zone" and struggle to play well and not like it as much. Almost always its the first of the two, kind of like Steel talked about turning on a switch. But on a few occasions for what ever reason I just could not get comfortable and fine my "zone". But its never been anything a few beer couldn't fix. ;D
Keep on pickin JoMan
