Its become a tradition for my dad (now in his 50s) to throw a big 4th of July JAM/Party/cookout/fireworks show. This year was no different. Every thing was just as it should be except for the musical intertainment. Sadly to say Noeljob had to move away for financial reason so our band has kind of hit the dirt hard, we are rebuilding but it wasn't going to happen by the 4th. Ok so there is always dads band and the all night jam sessions right? Wrong! Dads band was suffering from simular turmoil and no one showed but the bass player. Well this may sound like a bad thing but it turned out cool. Everyone that attends that knows anyone who plays anything is incouraged to invite said musician or musicians they may know. Well thats what happened, at last count 12 guitar players 4 bass players 5 drummers, 2 keyboard players and several singers traded off from 4p that evening to 3am the next morning. It was cool because no one had their complete band to back them up so no egos or attitudes got in the way. Don't get me wrong, if the bands were able to show it would have been sweet but the jam as you go style was a welcome change. It was a very eclectic mix of musicians and styles so every thing from country to blues to rock to hard rock and even a little alternative and metal was played. I had the honor of getting up 3 different times and all 3 times I had a blast. Over 90 people came, ate, swam in the pool, shot off fireworks and of course listened to some damn fine music. I recomend others start a simular tradition among friends and family if you don't already have one. And if you do let me hear all about it. Or just chime in and tell me if it sounds fun or not.
