yeah.... as they say buisness is business... I'd rather not see Gibson going after everyone for not coming up with a completely new design. The funny thing about the guitar versus other instruments is that there is no standardized design. Take violin, trumpet, flute, cello, etc. for instance, and (excluding colors and sizes) they all have the same design. Now what this means for specific designs - les paul, strat...I dunno, I'm no lawyer but every new company can't come up with a completely new guitar design. People like the "classic" guitar designs a ton, as they like the classic designs for other instruments as well...yeah...good story...I forgot what I was going to say next Anyway, only time will tell what becomes of the guitar design in years to come. Nobody complains about stealing each other's acoustic guitar design...maybe that falls into the "rest of the instruments" category and maybe the modern electric guitar is simply too new in terms of patents and such for the classic designs to be common (as in lots of companies use them) designs. ...Well, enough raving from me ;D Ima gonna go watch the news and see what hurricane Charley is doing to the east coast.
