Its the same as your independence day... Assuming your from amercia... if not...
Essentially July first is when Canada became a country. It was established in 1879. (The holiday)

I see, I'm from Austria, though. We celebrate on October 26th, which is the day after the day that the last foreign soldier left Austria in 1955 and then on 26th we declared ourselves neutral.

yeah, i think the germans have the 3rd of october (reunification i think) and the italian was jsut a few weeks ago, don't remember the background, though.

...I see Quebec is back in the news agitating for independence...you guys ought to give it to them...after a few years on their own they'd probably be begging to come back........

Well... taken from a canadian comedy show.
If Quebec splits away from Canada, Canada will join Quebec. And the whole country will be called Quebec. Then we'll all vote to change the name back and it will be the same as it ever was. -Rick Mercer
