What's with the bad rep on NJ? Lots of american movies have people badmouthing it, and lyrics in some songs(can't remember which ones), too.. Why?

...you mean like......
...the New Jersey mosquitoes are so large they're calibrated.........
...New Jersey has so many chemical plants it's the only state that glows in the dark.........
...the trend probably goes back to the vaudeville days when comedians played to audiences in large cities...New York...Philadelphia...Baltimore...what's in between...New Jersey...Delaware...nobody makes fun of corporately-owned Delaware because nothing happens there...when was the last time you heard about Delaware in the national news...........
...as I understand it...the same sort of regional jokes exist in the U.K. between the sophisicated south and the northern regions.............

...actually there's more to it...it has to do with what you put in those landfills.......
...a stadium...called The Meadowlands...was built on one of those NJ landfills...construction came to a halt several times as they kept digging up bodies...supposedly the landfill was used my the NYC crime families as a graveyard...Jimmy Hoffa...a labor union leader who disappeared...according to some stories...is buried within the confines of the stadium...some say he's under the fifty-yard line......
...to be fair...parts of New Jersey are very nice...one of the best universities in the world is located there...Princeton.....
...if you've ever seen a TV show called Sesame Street...there's a character called Captain Vegetable...there's a lot of reference made to the New Jersey's truck (vegetable) farms.........
...the inventor Thomas Edison had his labratories in New Jersey.........
...Bruce Springstein is from New Jersey...placed called Asbury Park if I'm not mistaken..............
...and the New Jersey ocean resorts aaarrree...well...you get the picture.......
...the jokes still persist...............
...Joman...you're from Austria...have you ever heard of a group of Germans called the Hessians...they fought as mercenaries with the British in the American Revolution...New Jersey has a special place in their hearts...on the morning of Dec 26, 1776 at a place called Trenton...now the state capitol...they were literally caught with their pants down by Gen. Geo. Washington after he and his colonial army crossed the ice-clogged Delaware river during the night........
