I have the chance to buy one for $399 Canadian (around $300 US) used in good condition, should I go for it? I can probably talk them down by $50 or so.

The Korina Explorer is one of Epiphone´s nicest guitars. Go for it! The price is ridicolous for a used one, you can´t go wrong. It has a mighty tone, almost alike a Les Paul but with a somewhat tighter bass. It has tons of sustain and easy access to higher frets. And: it looks cool!

Yes, still good when the guitar is in good condition. The Korina Explorers hardly never had special prices, no special deals or discount sales like often found at big musical instrument outlet stores when it comes to Epi Les Pauls. The Korina series has a certain price, so 360,00 U.S.$ is still a good deal. But keep in mind we are talking about the Korina Explorer in "natural see thru korina finish", not about the so called "ebony" Korina, which is actually black, these are generally somewhat cheaper often, at least in Germany. A "Korina" must have a natural see thru finish, that´s the real McCoy...

Bought it. Killed the bridge pickup while taking the wax off. Bought a late 70's dimarzio superdistortion to replace it ($65 Canadian, or $49 US). Steel wool to remove gold plating. 36 grit sand paper, various power sanders drills and chissels, and now the veneer is off. I'm going to take the rest of the finish off using stripper. Will then dye it with tea, possibly age it with iron acetate. Will then finish it with satin urethane.
