Good Morning For some time now I (and she that must be obeyed !) have been living in the real world, paying off bills, living within our means, not going crazy with presents for the kids, not buying food no-one will eat, and I have to say, I have been getting used to it. Life is good and I have no real worries. I have appreciated that just because I used to go into a music store and ALWAYS come out with something, that can't always happen. (I am 45 but think like a 10 year old !!) Her indoors doesn't understand my obsession with guitars but will usually cave in if I sulk long enough. Just been checking the credit card statements on line, THEY HAVE INCREASED MY CREDIT LIMIT BY GBP 1000.00 !!! and I didn't ask for the rise !!! hell now what do I do........... I work hard, sometimes 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, I deserve treats don't I, ? I support my family..... No I MUST NOT TAKE THAT damned card out with me..... I want another Telecaster...... I already have 6 guitars.... Help me guys .... What should I do resist or give in !!! Chris - Dover UK

To be honest, I am pretty broke at the time, because I always thought "I deserve this and that, and let´s buy it at instant..." As soon as I earned money it was spent on guitars, cars, gadgets of all kinds... I don´t have a family of my own, no kids, not even a rent to pay... my parents let me live in our big house, I have a pretty flat in the attic, but I am broke now. At the end of last year I became unemployed and I´m still looking for a new job... Take my advice and save the money for bad days... life does often change immediately and unexpectedly... Well, okay... I am 38 and I behave concerning money like a 10-years-old, too... hehe! So many nice playthings, and we wanna have them all... *drool* But sometimes it is better to say "no", or at least have a nice sleep over it before getting tempted.

as hard as it is...ya gotta take care of your base...they make tons of telecasters and there will always be one left...you could always trade or sell one to get another...but I know how that is...I hate to let go of any of them. My birthday is in two weeks and I'm trying REAL hard not to pull the trigger on an Agile jazz box...must resist...must resist. I know in the end they will always make another one...and I can wait.

Hey chrisgrimes, I 've got to go with sandman on this one. That tele will always be there for you when you need (er, I mean want it), so take care of business at home and maybe give it some time.
A reissue '52 tele is near the top of my list as far as "G.A.S.-quenching" goes, and I know that it s only a matter of time before I give in, even though I could probably swing it right now! But I also know that it will always be waiting for me when it is time.
I guess what I mean is, it might come down to as much of what the object of your G.A.S. is, rather than G.A.S. itself.
Now, if it were some unbelieveble deal, or one-of-a kind, or "If I don't do it now..." kind of thing, I say go for it! He-he!

Well it's now 1710 in the UK and the guitar stores are mainly shut for the weekend now. I visited 3 and actually did pick up an American Deluxe, it sounded wonderful and felt made for me. However............... I purchased a pack of 10 picks and a new strap for the Dot, costing a princely GBP 35 in total.... paid in cash !! You guys are right home/base comes first, always has with me (well since the kids started to come along 17 years ago !), I have achieved something today, as I did expect to cave in, but the stupidity of the obsession is that I already own a Standard Fender Telecaster, plus a Strat, and the Dot, plus 3 accoustics and a Fender Precision Bass..... I only really gig with Dot so why the hell do I want another one......... I realise my family must really love me to put up with this obsession that grips many of us on here !! Thanks again for your advice, HONESTLY I do appreciate it and it is another reason this forum will succeed, guys on here give genuine advice and don't tell you what you might always want to hear. Hope I can help someone here by return. Chris

;D Isn´t this exactly what is considered as G.A.S.? ;D drool... buy... must resist... buy... should resist... buy! Okay, I´ll buy! Wooohooo! ;D Capitalism strikes back ;D I guess it's understandable though. The only thing that I can suggest is try to come home with a CD or book of music (maybe learn some more theory and write a song) to learn rather than a new instrument. Its not guarenteed to make you go home satisfied, but it should at least partially asuage your urge to spend money. So many guitar designs have been around since the fifties so I don't think they're going anywhere...and I think your family will appreciate it

Well I have been a good boy ! Up until yesterday, my only Epi was wonderful Dot, went to Canterbury yesterday with her indoors (for those of you overseas, wonderful, compact medieval walled city, usually more tourists than residents !!) Has 3 music stores and I found myself in county music, looked around and gravitated towards the ex demo section, picked up a sunburst EPI LP Standard, I loved it !! NEVER owned any type of LP, this one is a beauty, price GBP 265 !! I am by no means a "metal head" but I have to confess this baby can crunch and scream, anyway the upshot is I bought it , with cash and am now very happy. Also, my son, who is 13 and a big fan of the Darkness, is now suddenly interested in guitar again, he poses with the LP extremely well and for that price I don't mind him leaping all over his bedroom with it !! Am I the first to buy a "new" Epi after the "incident" ! Chris - UK

Hi Steel
Euro rate in GB today is 1.57 (at rip off bureau de change) so that's about 415 Euro. The thing is effectively 4 months old, delivered new to the store and has been used as a demo guitar for 2 months, action is great, pick ups, pots etc all wotrk and they put on new set of strings. I am told that the finish is Cherry Sunburst, that too is immaculate, not a scratch in sight.
Even at discount stores in UK, you are looking at GBP 395 (EUR 620) for the EPI LP Standard so I guess I got a good deal.
Wuill attempt to prise the digital camera from my kids and get some pics up, prepare to be shocked by a funky dude !!
Steel....... Good luck to Deutschland in Euro 2004, we are playing France tonight....... I hope Henry, Vierra and Pires have a bad night !!!
Chris

Hi Chris, take a look at my Studio in the Gallery Part II, is your guitar the same color? In Germany the official price is about 520 Euros for a regular Standard, a bit more affordable than in England... ;D Ah, german soccer and Euro 2004... We will lose, hehe, the german national team is really lame ass... I will support the dutch team on tuesday! Hehehe! ;D
