...it's Memorial Day weekend....
...hope all goes well with the WWII Memorial dedication down on the Mall...we'll wait until after Labor Day when los touristas become scarce...unless we have out-of-town guests...then we'll have to wade thru the crowds....
...Monday my wife and I are heading to Falls Church, VA to see our friends from college....
...there'll be a parade with a concert afterwards...my guitar teacher is subbing in the group that's playing....
...I finally get to see him in action...I asked him what he was going to use...hoping it would be his Bogner stack and LP...but he said this venue didn't call for that...said he's taking his Jackson Strat and a Fender 2x12....
...after that...the local K of C is putting on a picnic supper.....

I have a nice weekend planned. I'm going to the guitar store to buy one I layed away earlier in the week. It's a 335 clone from Ibanez, the AS73 in transparent cherry red. The best part is, I saw it on Music123 for $80 less than the store has it, but the store will match any price. ;D How do you cook your sausages, Steel? I like to boil mine in some of the beer I'm drinking, then brown 'em up on the grill.

Usually I fry those sausages intended for BBQs simply by putting them on the grill (of course a charcoal grill), when it gets too hot for the sausage we use to splash a little beer over the sausages after we shook the bottle somewhat, in order to save the sausages from being burnt, hehe... We have a tremendous variety of sausages here and they are my favorite BBQ, though I like steaks and chicken as well... Electric barbecues or those run on gas are not very popular here, germans love open fire... Have a nice weekend everybody! P.S.: I absolutely love steaks that have been drowned in a sauce of mustard, garlic, onion and a little bit of oil overnight in the fridge! Yummm...

Well.....At least it's the weekend again!! I spent the past week with 4 different doctors and learned that my initail diagnosis was completely wrong. I've had 3 EKG's,a CAT scan, and an electrocardiograph (very similar to an ultrasound for pregnant women accept it's on the heart.)
Cardiologist said yesterday that one of the valves on my heart is leaking, so, I get to undergo more tests starting Tuesday. Heart Stress Test....possibly a Cardio Catheter later in the week. That cathetor thing is pretty cool tho. No pain. Out patient procedure..12 to 14 hours tops in the hospital.. Off work for a day or two afterwards. I have a great Cardiologist so I have very few worries.
So, I'm aiming for this weekend to kick all forms of ass!! Well, at least as much as I can...lol. I figure if they find something nasty and have to operate next week, I'll have a good time before hand. Hell, it might be 3 weeks or more before I can get close to a steak or beer. Need to store up what I can beforehand.....lol..
I'm trying to look at this in a postive way, kind of like preventive maintainence on your car. Fix the minor problems now before they get bigger. I've got a very supportive wife, great family and friends, and management team at work that are behind me. Thank God for insurance...and unlimited sick days at work. (My cardiologist is a 1 1/2 hr drive from here. 3 hour appointment = all day off of work paid.)
Anyways, y'all have a good weekend. Sorry to be a downer, but with all the well wishes from you guys, I figured I'd keep you updated.
Later -
Brandon

Cage, that's the way to go. Keeping an eye on things is best. It sounds like you have a good medical team watching out for you.
I suffered a stroke out of nowhere, and was blessed just to survive. I've shared this with a few members privately, but I'm doing so here to encourage you and everyone to take care of yourselves.
I can no longer work, but I make music for fun and therapy -- and collect guitars in lieu of playing very well....

Thanks man.....
My life has changed a lot over this past week. Starting to quit smoking, cutting back on crap food, keeping stress to a minimum. Things like this can really put your life into perspective. I'm only 27, but this still really has scared me. At 5'11", I way a whopping 140 lbs. I always thought that "Hey, I'm in good shape, not overweight, I can eat and and do anything I want." Well, guess I was wrong.....lol.....
My father-in-law had a 5 way bypass surgery done a few months ago by the same cardiologist I'm seeing. That's why I'm driving all the way to go to him. I have faith in my doctors and I know that I'll get through this.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. From here on out, I'm on the healthy side of things. Although....I don't think I'll stop eating bacon.... ;D....
Take care -
Brandon

Brandon, sorry to hear you are still in trouble, but I hope everything will turn out fine... But you are right when you say "better fix a minor problem, like maintenance on a car, before the problem develops into a big problem..." This reminds me of my own problems, I am too fat and I am suffering from a slight diabetes and I REALLY SHOULD take more care of my health... but wanna know what? I tend to keep it this way: when there are actually problems I go to the doctor and hear his advice and I obey and follow his suggestiosn for a time, then during the weeks I forget all the good advice and rules I should obey and return to my usual habits... smoking, drinking, eating to much and too fat... Since a couple of years I also suffer from minor rheumatism problems or gout (don´t know what precisely... doctors are still making test and examinations), also an effect obviously from crap food and being overweighted... Everytime when health problems occur it reminds me: "there is a thing you better had to keep in my mind, and entirely change your habits before it´s too late"... I have also known fellow musicians throughout the years that suffered various deseases, for example cancer... but they survived because the desease was detected at an very early stage. Anyway, youth (or at least being in the late 20´s or 30´s) doesn´t protect you from anything. Health is the most important thing and one should really take care of it. Money, guitars, cars, etc... all earthly wealth is worth nothing without the ability to lead a life without pain in healthy condition. I have lots of trouble concerning money affairs, job, etc. at the time, but I am happy to have a band, very nice fellow musicians (real friends)... and at least being healthy 90 or 95 %. Hope you will do better soon. Anyway have a nice weekend and fun... have a couple beers ;D, munch some steaks and be prepared food in hospital (if you have to go there) will not be so tasty. And again... saturday! Just sitting here this morning and waiting for my star spangled Strat to be delivered. Today seems to be pretty nice weather, hopefully it is keeping up. Today there will be an open air concert on our rehearsal room area (an old run down industrial area with old buildings, where at least 30 or 40 bands have their home). 5 bands will perform and there will be beer and BBQ, so I am looking for a nice day. We already managed to plan another festival there in September, 11 bands (including my own) will perform then and today it´s time to start a little promotion as well. Have a ´nice weekend everybody!

Steele...sounds like a great weekend. Brandon...if you don`t take care of you, you won`t be able to take care of you. Gang.... thanks for all the sausage cooking ideas. I like mine sliced lengthwise, grilled over charcoal, and drowned in brown mustard. mmmmmmmmmm. Mandough...., let us know about your new axe, too. I played th AS 73 at the local music shop. I thoought it was a great git for the $$. Of course, it was played through a Line 6 Vetta head and cab. No wonder it sounded so good! EVERYONE...I guess we`re all fortunate to be able to enjoy our lives in a positive way, and share our experiences with each other.

Jim Sliced lengthwise and drowned in mustard, sounds like a medieval way of torture, lol ;D To be honest: brown mustard, is that sweet mustard (like the bavarians like it over here?) Yumm, if so I love brown mustard.
