I can listen to Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, and my mind totally drifts away for the whole 43 minutes. I go into a world of my own.. weird, it's like a drug.. If I'm feeling down and bummed out, I'll just put on some rock(Muse - Absolution, as I'm writing this) and all my problems (and, recently, heartaches) disappear, there's just me and the music.. It's amazing how some music can do that.. Anyone else feel like this about music? *ranting and raving*

My wife keeps telling me to play guitar more as it mellows me out and makes me much easier to get along with.

Dark Side of the Moon is just such a great album to sit down and relax to. Each song flows right into the next and I forget all my troubles. Same thing with any Led Zeppelin song. I could listen to them all day, in fact I have before on an 11 hour plane trip to Poland

Dunno what I would do without it.

Hey Guys...I too find music to be very therapeutic, whether playing it or listening to it. Psychologists have been using music in therapy for years and there have been many studies of the positive psychological effects of music. Actually, I think I did a research paper in college on this very topic for a Psyc class that I took! Dark Side of the Moon is one great album to "zone out" on, I used to do the same thing with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band back in the day...

Well, to me playing is therapy... Almost all the time when I play my guitar or write songs or record or rehearse with my band I forget about all my sorrows. It´s just me and the guitar and my music, all other thinking is kind of "switched off" then... Just listening to music can be horrible often, especially when it comes to all too emotional music... I prefer playing myself...

therapy? most definatly. I started playing because I thought it would be cool and it was but I soon learned that it helped me to feel better when I was down. Then I would get songs stuck in my head and could not sleep until I worked them up on guitar thats the only way I could make the music in my head stop.(great way to write a song) ;D Then when I was a teenager I got into heavy stuff to get out alot of aggression and the guitar also gave me a voice to scream with without actualy screaming. Now the guitar is all of the above and much more. Without music I would be in a nut house, I just know it. Some say I should be in one anyway.(the jury is still out on that one) ;D

f" then... Just listening to music can be horrible often, especially when it comes to all too emotional music... I prefer playing myself... Man I feel your pain, just think about working at a country bar and then getting dumped from a 6 year relationship and every other song is a cry in your damn beer or love song. I almost went postal. But the funny thing is blues music never made me hurt like that. It may make me feel the blues but sad country songs should be outlawed outright.

I can assure you that there are lots of emotional metal tunes as well, especially certain ballads... boohooo... lol, no kidding, sometimes I have to skip these songs with a quick switch forward on the CD player... I could have chosen the screen name Sentimental Dog instead of Steelpriest as well, hehe. ;D

My wife and kids have remarked several times how much more mellow I am after a few hours with the guitar indoors (They don't see the empty beer bottles beside the couch !!)
Therapy for me is to listen to Santana's live album, Lotus, recorded in Japan millions of years ago. It just seems to do everything for me.
