Here is something I recently found out.
If you find a guitar that has a MSRP of $3,000.00 and you talk your talk and get it sold to you for $2,000.00, the minute you walk out the door with that guitar the Blue Book (Yes, There is a Guitar Blue Book) Value of that guitar is $1,500.00. Now let's say right after you walk out with it you change your mind and take it to the next Guitar Store down the street to sell it, they will look at the Blue Book Value of that guitar as $1,500.00 and offer you MAYBE if you're lucky $750.00-$1,000.00
Amazing yet True.

Yes, that's how I remember it being in the 70s! There was list price, from which you tried to cut your deal, then good used was half list to buy, and selling it back was half of that.
Still, I see guys online quoting list as "worth" and trying to sell old guitars for $20 less than what I can buy one for new!

So true! When I went to guitar center to buy my MG30DFX, I decided to trade in my Crate 10 watt for some store credits, and all they offered to give me was $5 worth of store credits!! So I talked to the guy who was selling me my amp a lot, and convinced him to take $30 off the MG.

Very true. In fact, most stores will only give you half of what they can resell it for. Sad truth, but that's the way it is. I can't blame them. If I owned a guitar shop that is the way I would work it.
All in all however, your guitars true worth is ONLY what someone will pay for it.

Hey look on the bright side, it makes buying used that much better. The only problem is that you just can't ask for much when trading in something that is old and has seen wear.
