If I could make the angry-face smiley huge I would. . Alas. We're in the recording process and while we're paying $450 for the whole bit, we were fortunate enough to get a block deal rather than paying hourly... we've spent at least 16 hours in studio so far and have yet to really mix or add vocals. If anyone can tell me anything worse than recording I have to assume that would be what hell is like. We're grumpy, tired, overplayed, hungry, and there's no bathroom. This album had better be worth it! Thank you for the rant space, if any of you have any horrid recording stories, please share! Ty

Oh yeah. recording can be hell, I agree! But is also fun... Fortunately we have our own recording gear and can do very decent demo recordings ourselves... Anyway, as soon as the red light flashes and says "RECORDING" musicians get nervous, me too. ;D The worst thing is that after a day of recording everybody seems to be happy with the results but in the other day often someone comes and says: "we should do this and that again, I can do it better than that..." and thus the whole process repeats over and again. Most recently our lead guitarist left, the female lead singer was replaced by a new one, and our "already finished" demo album needs a lot of revisiting again... I had to erase all the guitar tracks of the other guitarist, record his rhythm guitars anew, play leads myself... also I considered to change some of my own previously recorded rhythm guitars, we had to erase and repeat a lot of vocal parts... oh lord! I insisted to have the actual line up on this album! Hopefully we will finish this album somewhen... Somehow I feel a song is never finished... when you got your own recording gear you always come across details you want to improve and change. But I hear you... when you are actually in a real professional studio and have to pay for the studio time things can drive you nuts... It´s no good to have always the money you misspend maybe on your mind. It deprives you of your concentration totally. In such situations there are often compromises made in order to save time and money, but too much of those compromises ruin the overall result of recordings... time and money is spent, but no one is really satisfied with the outcome... I love to be totally independend, and so we have our own recording gear... it pays in the long run. I won´t enter a professional studio until a record company pays for it! ;D So this will likely never happen again...

The tragic bit of this is that I'm the only one who gets pissed when the guitarist misses a key note in some obvious part of the song (and he's cool with just recording it in), or when our drummer makes up pauses and plays 4/4 in our 6/8 time songs. I'll probably refrain from killing them until it's all released, otherwise it'll all be for naught since I've never played drums before. Ty

The funny thing about that is that my roommate's band has done so many revolting things to his drummer's set that I can't list 90 percent of it on this site for decency's sake. Let's just say that when he removes the padding from his kick drum he'll have an unpleasant surprise... and that's one of the more civil things they've done. Ty
